Hover fly macro

Handheld using Olympus OM4, Zuiko 50mm + Vivitar 2x macro focusing converter, Sunpak 30DX flash.
Location: my garden in southern England in July or August.

The subject seems a tiny bit soft but perhaps that's the scan. The white, out of focus, blossom near the top left edge and buds down the left side complete for attention. Cropping them out doesn't help since the crop leaves the framing awkward. A little better light on the head would help to bring it out more. This sounds like a tough critique, but it's not intended to be. A very good shot was here but the devil is in the details.

I think the softness is due to the scanning and the large amount of compression required to get this image within the 50K limit. The original slide has more detail and projects well.
Here is a larger (160K) 1200dpi scan with less compression. The yellow spots you can see are pollen.
