Victims of Spin, Wacko Paranoia, Media Weasels, Scams, etc.,??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I sometimes think I've fallen into the Twilight Zone, or a Blade Runner world. Does anyone else worry about this? I posted this last night on another thread, and since there were no replies, I'm posting it again. Frankly, I don't believe it, but it bothers me for two reasons. First, that there might be just a scintilla of truth in it, and second, that I've gone over and don't realize it. I would much rather be told that I've happily gone over rather than that there's any truth to it.

Actually I'm a very skeptical person. I view anything I can't see or prove or verify as baloney. But on one web site there were pictures and this made me nervous. Maybe they were for a giant dog pound, which that in intself is horrifying. Read my post from last night and give me your thoughts or LOL and reassure me.

From last night's post. I know this isn't the correct place to post this....but here it is anyway. I wasn't about to start a topic for fear of being pelted to death with moldy rice. Where's Andy??? Anyway, this fellow on the Y2K News Magazine Government Forum wrote a very long post about concentration camps in the U. S. No verification of course, but here is a link he gave. http://members.localnet.com/~bobg/ifa29.htm I hope this link is correct. Talk about causing panic in the credulous!!! Keep in mind that I just finished reading Nigh/Dawn/Day by Elie Wiesel and I'm a little paranoid right now.

Gilda,

I'm an open-minded person and don't mind reading things out of far left field and far right field. The kind of politically tinged Web site you're talking about to me is like the Shroud of Turin...fascinating to talk about, but not relevant to the topic of whether or not Jesus Christ is the Redeemer.

In our case, what's relevant is whether or not we prepare to deal with Y2K next year. What role the government will play in all this next year is like the Shroud of Turin; it's fascinating, but it may be something we won't know conclusively about for quite awhile.

The political aspects of Y2K should not be the main motivation for our personal preparedness.

Let's all keep preparing, whether it's for three days, a month or six months.

"The political aspects of Y2K should not be the main motivation for our personal preparedness."

Sorry to strongly disagree, Kevin, but preparedness is preparedness. Some will be motivated by one thing, others by another.

You seem to be insisting that everyone else here must share your motives. I'll insist that whatever it is that encourages a person to become self sufficient and prepared for emergency situations is advantageous -- to you, to me, and to everyone else.

Gilda,

Think very carefully about who owns the loudest propaganda organ and the biggest bully pulpits in the nation before you crash and burn in your own front yard worrying about spin and scams and wacko paranoia. The truth really is out there. It may be denied or buried or slanted by someone with an agenda or it may be ignored completely but it's there.

You worried about gov't concentration camps? Of course there are some detention facilities here and there- just ask the Marielitos (remember the Cuban boat lift?) who got stuck at Ft. Chaffee (Arkansas- interesting coincidence, eh?) or the Haitians who got/get crammed into Krome. Some new ones just went up along the border with Mexico preparing to welcome a new wave of visitors from further south. Is someone planning to stuff you into one? How the heck do I know- or anyone else for that matter? But I guarantee you there are very real and very immediate things to worry about if you want an excuse to worry. I'd put getting stuffed into the clink pretty far down on my list were I you.

gilda,

For kicks I went to look at this web site and checked out what they said about Texas and my neck of the woods. Saw Amarillo listed as a FEMA Detention Facility. I've lived here for 22 years & my husband has lived here for 55 years. Know just about everyone and everything that goes on here. Promise you, there is not a scintilla of truth about this. Yes, if you believe this you are a victim of "Spin, Wacko Paranoia, Media Weasels, Scams, etc.,??"

The following is what the site published concerning Texas: *Ft. Hood* Ft. Hood has a newly built concentration camp, constructed complete with towers, high fencing, and barbed wire. *Mexia* WWII German/ Italian POW camp being renovated. *Amarillo* FEMA Detention facility

Just trying to shed a little light on this for you. Not trying to flame, but I think the first thing we need to do when it comes to the conspiracy agenda spinners is to take what is said with a very big grain of salt. At worst our goverenment is clueless, wasteful & arrogant, but certainly not a regime of Nazi imitators. Why in the heck would they want to put millions in concentration camps? What good what that do? For what purpose, for what end? Follow the thought process all the way thru and you'll find it is totally illogical.

Remember Gunter Grass's observation: "the dark night of fascism is forever falling in the United States, but only lands in Europe."

It's easier to control through economics than through detention. There have to be consumers to support the sales of goods that makes the big guys rich.
