Microsoft, Windows 2000 and Y2k

An interesting article on Microsoft's strategy (or lack of?)regarding its non-compliant operating systems. I would like to know what this forum's IS people think of Mr. Cringely's analysis.

Gates and Y2k

Wanda,

It sounds like a lot of people who depend on Microsoft's operating systems are going to be in big trouble come Y2K. Good find; thanks for the link.

Nice find Wanda. I've been reading Robert Cringely for years. He is usually right on the money, IMHO. Looks like all those "Bill Gates will fix it" people are in for a rude awakening. <:)=

thanks, wanda!

More verification of what I've been saying for years.

If I could figure out another way of making a living, giving my limited intellectual capabilities and energy, I would not be using MicroSucks products. But, that's where the demand is for PC stuff (I got into this computer stuff too late and too old to get into mainframes or big server stuff).

Reminds me of an old joke -- applicable to this:
Cowboy in old West town was in the barber chair complaining to his barber about the crooked weekly poker game down at the saloon. "Those varmits cheat me every week and take my money -- they mark cards, they hve cards up their sleeves, they double deal, and they steal my chips."
So the barber says, "Well why do you keep playing; why not just quit?"
And the cowboy says, "Hell, I can't quit; it's the only game in town!"

VbProg,

there are plenty of other games in town. My advice - get yourself a copy of Linux ;-)

Mind you, if all else fails...

I believe that Slade Gorton from Washington is one of the U.S. senators who is leading the charge to limit Y2K litigation damages. I think that he is trying to get Mr. Gates out of BIG TROUBLE.

Someone, somewhere:
If it wasn't for this Y2K thing, I would have at least looked into Linux. I may not be doing any programming of ANY kind in nine months or less. And, I don't know what the demand (ability AND willingness to pay) is for that, now, anyway. Something to keep in mind for 2001 if things are still working.
