1-888-USA-4-Y2K...option #4...how to prepare for the Year 2000

I personally think the level of preparation suggested below is too small. Apparently though minor preparation for Y2K is now endorsed by the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion.

Here's the text version of what you hear if you dial 1-888-USA-4-Y2K and select option #4...

YEAR 2000 OPTION 4

The President's Council on the Year 2000 transition is working with businesses and governments across the country and world to assure that computers and electronic systems are ready for the year 2000. While we believe that there will be no major national disruptions of key infrastructures such as electric power, telecommunications, banking and transportation, you ned to be aware that anything-from inclement weather to Y2K failures-could temporarily disrupt services at any time.

Personal preparedness for the Year 2000 transition is no different from how one should normally be prepared for the usual winter storm. As always, it is a good idea to: have batteries for flashlights and radios, have a three-day supply of water and nonperishable foods, and make sure that the gas tanks in cars are never less than half full. The Y2K phenomenon is also a good reminder to take care of billing, bank, and tax records. Having a file of recent copies of records and statements at home makes good sense at any time.

Stay informed. Consult reputable sources such as your local government, your bank, your utility company, your pharmacist and ask what they are doing to be Y2K ready.

At least we are a little bit pregnant now.

Thanks for another good post.
