...Hi Gang!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I haven't been around here all that much lately, well, lurking some but not participating as much as usual. And, I'd like to share with you why that is...

I recently quit my techie job working for an ad agency in order to pursue SOME kind of work dealing with this Y2K mess. I didn't quite know what, but I knew that my interest was in reading and analyzing all the news about it. I was, however, even considering going to the local power company and doing monkey work for 5 bucks an hour. Luckily, it didn't have to come to that!

Well, not a week after my ca-ray-zee decision to quit my job, Larry Sanger put out his plea for help for his website, and I responded. We went back and forth with e-mails, and I've been helping him do the summaries for the past few days. I intend to keep doing so (even though he's got no money right now to pay me!) and we've been discussing a few ideas to expand the site. He's got a new marketing guy trying to sell more banners, and I've got some ideas and connections for how to go for corporate sponsorships.

Anyway, it's a labor of love (or rather a labor of hate? I HATE the implications of what might happen). I feel that more information is better and clean information is important. And I felt that in the short time that we have left, I wanted to put my energy into doing something positive by way of helping to disseminate more and cleaner information.

So, here's the gentle plug:

Check out Sanger's Review everyday for the latest media articles about the Y2K issue (and then come back here to discuss them!)

After my PAYING job is done at the end of this week, I'm looking forward to having more time to spend here again, as this is an incredible resource. In the meantime,

Cheers!

"put my energy into doing something positive"..good for you pshannon!

-- Mike Lang (webflier@erols.com), March 08, 1999.

Ya just don't "get it" do you?

Sigh - all the other guys and galls and trolls out there keep telling us that we're supposed to MAKE money doing this Y2K hype bit - now get busy and make all this money I'm not - you have to make a greedy profit for two of us now you realize, not just yourself. Come on, don't be selfish and just make one greedy profit terrorizing people, make two (or three).....8<)

By the way, check the NYC auditor's report - if you stay there - we need an update of old data there.

Much luck and here's a hot tip - If you want to get the latest first, come here!

Yo pshannon! Way to go! I wondered if that new 'analizer' Sanger mentioned last week was you. (I remember that you said that you applied.) I did, in fact, notice a kind of energy coming from his site that had been lacking before that. So that was YOU doing that! (Old Kliban joke.) I'm glad. You two deserve each other.

Hey p.s. - don't be a stranger! we still need your input here, even if you do have to switch to voice-to-text to avoid carpal tunnel...

First of all it's good to have you back! Secondly I plan to move in the near future myself. I have given 16 years to my job but I know in my gut my company is going down hard!!! So what's the point, do I stay on the ship and eat ice or get into a life raft? I wish the best for you and I always enjoy your input/output or I/O in geekaneese. Please stay in touch because YOU DA MAN Pshannon!---Tman :-)

ps, glad you're enjoying your new life, but if you decide down the road you need filthy lucre, there's a firm in Raleigh would be glad to have you. They're not bad to work for, CEO is ex-Navy.

pshannon,

There's a NYC thread on here started by an "optimist." Ed has responded, and I think you might like to add your own two cents worth to the discussion. The link is at...
