On Jan. 30, I attended the Preparedness Expo in Seattle; some 350 vendors/exhibitors were there. After walking around, checking the labels on various foods, I found one that passed my test as a nutritionist. And the sample, "Mexicano Plus," was delicious! They also have Italiano, Chicken, and Beef. The ingredients are: couscous (prepared fromf 100% duram wheat semolina), texturized soy protein, canola powder, (not from rapeseed), dried tomato, corn, peppers, spice blends, vitamin/mineral fortified. The food can be eaten with warm or cold water, or even raw. It can be soaked and mashed for baby food. There is no hydrogenated oil, msg, or processed junk! It is packaged in 1 lb, bags, all dry ingredients so you don't have to worry about preserving the unused portion. One bag provides 10 servings at .32 each. You can order as few as 4 (l of each flavor) for $27.95 current price, or a pallet providing 12,000 servings for $4,695 (prices do not include shipping) If interested, call 1-877-88-4FOOD, ex. 7921. More info. at www.y2kemergencyfood.com (including my endorsement!) If anyone can beat this, I'd like to know! Blessings for your journey!

Hi Holly,

Are you endorsing the food on the other web site? How did you become associated with it other than expo?

canola powder not from rapeseed?? Contradiction in terms I'da thunk. And no I'm not just nitpicking, because rapeseed is not fit for human or animal consumption, despite its prevalence in food today. Clarify

Canola is a seed crop grown in Colorado, Minnesota, North Dakota and in the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. Canola is a genetic variation of rapeseed developed by Canadian plant breeders specifically for its nutritional qualities, particularly its low level of saturated fat. The name "canola" is a registered trademark of the Canola Council of Canada.

Trouble is, I can't stand the taste of it.

Mr. Moore...No, I have no interest in the company other than as a customer, had never heard of them and learned of them just as described above. I met both the president and v.p. of the company at their booth; they are a couple friendly, fun, Christian men! Tom, thank you for clariying info re. Canola. There is more such info on their website re this oil. (Most any oil, by itself, tastes yukky!) I learned in my college nutrition courses that hydrogenated vegetable oil is to be avoided! It is in almost everything, unfortunately. Such oils undergo heat treatment that destroys the natural preservatives, i.e., vit. E. Thus, they are rancid! Then, the oils are "perfumed" to cover up the smell. Have you ever smelled, or eaten, rancid nuts? YUK! Margerine is the most "lethal" product on the market! Butter is better, and one can soften it, add some olive oil and canola oil to it, stir gently and have a real food. However, with the increase in butter cost, I searched and found a very good spread called "Smart Balance." ( No, I do not have any vested interest in that company either!) Chuck, I don't know if they have any involvement with "Feed My Children." You could call the toll-free 877 number and ask. Now, before you "dis" me for the little bit of nutrition info I've shared, please go to a nutrition store, or the library, and do some research, especially re. oils! As a great granny, I have better health than most of my peers, and people half my age! No drug use of any kind, prescribed or over the counter. It wasn't always so; learning good nutrition and practicing it made the difference. Lord bless you as you learn! Granny Holly

Holly,

Thank you for your information. I was unsure what you meant in your post when you referred to your endorsement. No flames were intended. Merely inquiring as info did indeed sound interesting.
