ok, shoot me.

While the light is wonderful, there are a couple of disturbing elements. First, the angle of the shot would be more effective if you had been lower to the subject. The "overhead" angle is difficult. Second, the out of focus foam framing the top of the shot is quite distracting. On the plus side, you obviously got out early to shoot at the best light while I sit here at my computer and criticize. You win!

I've taken a similar 'overhead' shot myself (the subject and time was different)...and I understad the difficulty of playing with the diagonal lines when it's constantly moving (the water line I mean) I would've liked to see the diagonals meet in the centre...to give it a symmetrical frame. Chuck...the foam isn't out of focus - it's blurred because of motion. The light clearly adds punch to this image.

Mike, Beautiful golden light, and I like the detail in the sand, the long shadows cast by the sticks, and how the foam frames them. But the foam being out of focus bothers me. For me this would be better if you had shot at a higher shutter speed, instead of letting the foam blur. Otherwise, very nice!

Thanks for your responses. The out of focus foam is indeed due to motion of the water but it bothers me. I had hoped the other elements would carry the picture but I now think not.

The texture of the sand, the excellent side lighting and the resultant long shadows from the sticks are excellent. The bit of foam on the right seems just right as well. Many elements of a very good shot. The only drawbacks from me are the way the crest of the foam intersects the top of the frame and the already pointed out lack of sharpness in the foam, particularly on the left. Glad you posted it for our review.

Great composition. Lighting reveals wonderful texture and detail, but foam movement erases some of that.
