House panel will vote Thursday on bill that could kill "Know Your Customer" rule

* Immediate action required! Telephone your House representative

The House Banking Committee will vote on a measure as early as 10:00am ET on Thursday, March 4, that would stop the so-called Know Your Customer rule, the FDIC regulation that would force banks to monitor customers' accounts and report any "unusual" transaction to federal investigators.

We are asking everyone who receives this message to *immediately* check the list below to see if your U.S. House representative sits on the House Banking Committee. If he or she does, call them immediately and ask them to vote YES on Amendment 8.

BACKGROUND: On Thursday the House Banking Committee is scheduled to debate HR 10, which deals with financial modernization. Rep. Ron Paul, R-TX, is scheduled to introduce an amendment to that bill -- Amendment 8 -- which would effectively kill Know Your Customer. Now we need to pressure the Banking Committee to vote YES on Amendment 8, and send it to the full House for a vote.

WHAT TO DO: Look at the list of House Banking Committee members below to see if your representative is on the list. If he or she is, *immediately* call the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-225-3121 or 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your representative's office. Then politely tell the staffer, or leave a voice mail message, saying:

(1) You are a voter in their district, and leave your name, address, and telephone number.

(2) Ask them to vote YES on Amendment 8 during Thursday's hearing on HR 10.

The Capitol switchboard is open 24 hours a day, so please make the call regardless of when you get this message. If your representative has voice mail (and most do) you will be connected to their office.

If you get this message before 10:00am ET on Thursday, call that morning immediately!

Remember, call -- don't e-mail -- because there's not enough time for the office staff to download, print, and count e-mail messages before the hearing begins.

Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

Steve Dasbach National Director Libertarian Party

Thanks for this info Bobbi. Yesterday on the radio, a show called "Focus on the Family", they discussed the fact the the FDIC has received over 119, 000 correspondences about this iniquitous, unconstitutional, Big Brother proposal but that the FDIC intends to go ahead with it anyway. They said to write your Congressman or better yet send e-mail to the FDIC at "comments@fdic.org". Another thing mentioned was that they may change it from being a "regulation" to a "policy" - which they said means that if it is a policy then the bank examiners would be responsible for enforcing it. Either way it is bad news and must be stopped. This horrendous plan must be killed, and for good too.
