greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

How4s the optical and mechanical quality of the EOS 20 mm 2.8 lens compared with the 17-35 2.8, 20-35 3.5-4.5 and other comparable lenses from 3rd party manufactors?

the 20mm prime is better then any zoom in the ultra wide range. but all three canon lenses are very close. they are all about the same as far as ergonomics go.

The 17-35L Canon lens was a big disappointment to me. Very soft on the edges at 17,20,28mm. I've look around and done a lot of testing of various lenses in these focal lengths. Finally decided to return to the 20-35 L Canon. Nothing between this lens and the 20 f2,8. And much more flexible too.
