Spin vs No Spin

Hi Everyone! I haven't seen this on the board yet so thought I'd pass it on.

Worth the time to download (IMHO). The wifes and family's response was "Wow!"(mine also). :)

I believe this type of straight forward approach would be a far more effective method for raising public awareness. Would there be panic? I don't think so. People are inundated with bad news daily (and we accept it as part of living). I think it would become just another part of everyday living (as it apparently has in Switzerland).

The benefit would be greater general awareness and worth the price for the size of the audience. JMHO. Enjoy and cya round! -km-

"In my recent status report about Switzerland and Y2K I mentioned a TV spot of "Swisscom", the Swiss telecom giant, about Y2K, that was repeatedly aired on prime-time here. For my report see http://www.dejanews.com/[ST_rn=qs]/getdoc.xp?AN=430571204

The TV spot is now available as a standard Windows AVI with a size of about 4 MB: See page with link (rotating film roll) at http://www.2000ok.ch/content/rub34.asp?lang=d

Have a look even if it may take time to download the thing. I think the spot deserves recognition beyond the borders of little Switzerland.

Quite amazing for me as well that you can show something like this repeatedly on prime-time TV nationwide and still get NO PANIC REACTION whatsoever.

Dear Ken,

That aired in Switzerland, the country that has functional fallout shelters for over 120% of it's poulation and blast/bio-chem shelters for probably 95+% They have entire underground hospitals that are stocked and will shelter from fallout, nuclear blast, and bio-chem warfare. Each adult male has a REAL assualt rifle, ammo, and practices marksmanship, not some semi-auto civilian grade thing painted black. Every house, apartment building, warehouse, school, resturant, office building, etc. built since the 1960's has a fallout/blast/bio-chem shelter that is stocked with food and water. Every major town has a parallel city hall underground + fire and rescue equipment underground in a protected environment. The Swiss Franc has some gold baking it up. The list of preparations goes on and on and on and on.

With that as a background can you see why the Swiss will not panic? They are better prepared for nuclear war than any country on earth. Can you see why Y2K won't upset them that much?

Dear Kens .... My wife is Swiss. Went there to meet the parents after the wedding ( in '87 ). Her brother was head of the civil defense force for St. Galen and when I asked about which tunnels we had been through were the ones used for defense , I just got " Nine, nine ". But he did take us down to the sub basement blast shelter. Ten inch concrete and steel doors. The building was only about three months into the rental stage, so the shelter had only one item stocked ... hundreds of wine bottles , as the temperature there is excellent for storage. Couldn't help remarking that if the was a nuclear holocast outside, the people inside would be feeling NO PAIN ; but, Oh, the hangover !!!! Eagle Got hand lotion ???
