National Guard drills

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

There is a helipad on the roof of the local level I trauma center, which is used by Lifewatch choppers, etc.

My wife said last night that Air National Guard choppers ("Slicks" to my fellow veterans), were doing touch-and-gos all day yesterday.

I think this is good news, not bad - at least someone is preparing for getting people to the hospital.

I am going to post anonymously from now on - both my wife and I are in sensitive positions, and I am increasingly concerned about the number of spammers and "others" who seem to visit this site more and more.

LOL

Are you sure those weren't just MAST guys getting oriented?? I know that long before the Drivers came to Cleveburgh, we used to fly patients out of Madstop via MAST from Ft. Drum. ("Fort" Drum STILL feels awkward. Grew up with it as "Camp" Drum, and it's been a "Fort" for, what, 20 Years?)

Oh Well, Plus ca change....

chuck, in a funny mood

From the Great White North, Seward, Alaska, 25 FEB 99, At this time we have 1400 U.S. Army, Navy and Canadian Forces in our town of 2500. Their setting up comm. sites and helo LZ's. I asked a 1st.Lt. if this was a pratice run for new years eve ? He gave me a look like,"how the f--k did you know that ?" Then turned and walked away. I sure love all the info you can get off the WEB.

Has anybody else noticed an increase in National Guard recruitment commercials on T.V.? They certainly are going full out here in Oregon. I see them several times every day!

Tom, the right expression for a GI in the context of Y2K is c'est la guerre. Only CGI's are content to say c'est la vie ;->

Today about 1 pm Central, I noticed a military red-cross helo doing practice drills at one of the hospitals near where I work. I am not sure if it was the University Hospital or the VA due to my positioning. However, I do believe it to be the University Hospital. For all of the time that I have been here, I have never seen one doing these types of exercises. We do have life-flight all of the time, but they are not military helos.
