New/update glasses for 70-200/2.8L and 100-400/4.5-5.6 L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I understand that Canon already have new UD glass, called Super UD. This has been used in the new 100-400/4.5-5.6 L lens Do you now/think by when it will be equiped for 70-200/2.8L And do you know/think by when Canon will produce the new 70-200/2.8L IS. The second questions is your test/recommend on the new 100-400/4.5-5.6 L.

Thanks, QC

Super UD glass has been used for a while. I think the 400/5.6L was the first lens to use it, and that lens must have been around for at least 3 or 4 years now.

I have no idea what Canon will do and when they will do it!

The 100-400L IS is a great lens if you want and need a zoom and you plan to take advantage of the IS function. I have not used one, so can't comment more than that. FWIW, I'm personally sticking with a 300/4L (+1.4x TC) to cover the long end of that range. From what I've heard, it's a decent performer, but no "miracle" lens. The primes (even with TCs) are still sharper. I'll repeat I haven't used one, so I can't comment from my own direct experience.
