I'm moving out of town soon, and did some rough and ready research for hand pumps. Here are some sites I found:

http://www.handpumps.com/sigma.htm these pumps can be used for deep wells, possibly up to 200 feet.

http://www.lifewater.ca/handpumps.htm Also great links on wells, digging, restoring, and other water sources http://www.pumps-directory.com/ Links to pumps of all kinds

http://www.divwatt.co.za/ Solar powered pumps A South African company, no prices on web site

Prices for these start at about $60.00 for the simplest shallow hand pumps.

This is really funny.Im reading this while we are getting our hand pump installed in our well! I ordered this just before thanksgiving. The well man said that we should have it in a couple of weeks,he called me last month and said "you will never believe what has happened..I said"Oh try me"(I already knew why there was such a delay). He went on to tell me that the place he ordered the hand pump was just about to go out of business(because nobody uses hand pumps anymore) when all of a sudden they were so overwhelmed with orders they couldnt keep up with the demand! So four months later, here he is putting in the hand pump.. I'll let you know how it works...

Ace Hardware, 59.99

Bought it two days before the well was drilled. Works like a charm.

Seems the 25' draw is from the valve at the top of the pipe, not the actual bottom of the pipe.

We only went 33' down. More than necessary in Miami, FL, I've been told, but we did want to avoid the rust stains if possible.

And so far, no rust. The electric pump is great too. Wish we had it installed during the dry spell we had, instead of the beginning of 'Noah's showers'. I feel like we are in Seattle!
