digital camera vs film camera and scan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Is it better to use a digital camera to take close-up of food dishes or use an ordinary camera and scan - idea is to build a catalog of various recipes including phots of how they look like and store on cd-rom - also to be transmitted thru email. User will print from pc.

Can you help by listing pros and cons - thinking of mavica with higher res....any suggestions?

If the images are going to be viewed on a CRT (as opposed to being printed out), I'd say a digicam will win hands down. Where the film/scanner combo really shines is when you need much higher resolution than the current crop of digicams provides. You mentioned that the user will print these out, but I'm guessing you'll want to keep the photos small for transmission via email, etc. Still, all things considered, I'd say get a digicam, but definitely go for at least XVGA resolution (1024x768 pixels).
