A friend of mine was a grip on the new documentary, "Millennium Factor" and he told me that the crew had lined up an interview with the chief engineer of a utility company in the Southeast to discuss their Y2K readiness. On the morning of the interview, the production company got a call saying that the engineer had shot and killed himself.

Despite numerous attempts to learn the contents of the suicide note and to interview someone else from the utlitiy about their Y2K readiness, the company refused to cooperate at all.

My friend also said that the production company has received a great deal of "heat" from some government types about some footage of "closed senate hearings".

I'm stunned also...

I read nothing in the body of your post that substantiated the title "Suicide to avoid interview." Nothing except innuendo and hearsay. Even the "National Enquirer" wouldn't stoop to running a similar headline and story. Perhaps the company was respecting the privacy of the worker and his family.

Alright Richard...It's time for the test. What was the name of the utility? (You don't work for them and you have no reason to not tell the name. No excuses about black helicopters chasing you down if you tell us). Why do I have the feeling that you will disappear or weasel on telling us? Prove me wrong.

AND this post looks suspiciously like a similar post that was made by a distributor of the video. We've graduated from 'infomercials' to 'forumercials.' Those who have been here awhile know I'm not a pollyanna, but this post smells of hucksterism. It contains all the words and techniques that are used in direct mail sales. You can tell your boss (or yourself) that sales of this type of material doesn't need the same techniques used by ad-specialty salespeople.

Earning money from y2k is no crime. Perhaps the video is informative and excellent...but I see right through you. Many people will not, just like those who bought into the foreclosed property scam by the "concouple" in Florida. P.T. Barnum was right.

This posting was brought to my attention this morning by Alan Simpson and I felt that I must respond;

Like a great deal of things reported about Y2K, this story has a measure of truth to it but little more. It is true that the chief engineer of a utility did indeed commit suicide on the morning of his scheduled interview with us, but the whole truth is that we later learned that the unfortunate event was related to troubles that the gentleman had been having with his spouse. And his company did go on to not only provide an interview but also to provide full access and disclosure on their Y2K status.

Mr. Maltup, I'd be very interested in knowing the source of your information as well, if only to insure that he is not hired on future productions.
