Before this is over, I wouldn't be surprised if Cory sounded like one of the only sane ones.

Cory said if things went Milne he'd be grateful for a corner of a shed on the Baron's property. OK statement as far as it goes, but to me it hints at an interesting issue. The Baron (using him as a straw man for anybody whose current wealth and property enable extensive pre-Game-Time preparations) will presumably be in the 'manor house' (unless he's a communist, bunking in the shed with the guys :)

This brings to my mind what I call the "Praetorian Guard Problem" (I'm sure you all know the "human resources" issues that the Roman Emperors experienced with their bodyguards). With society gone, why should anybody acknowledge authority, and attendant resource allocation, based on pre-Game-Time hierarchies ? Sure - maybe CH is good buddies with the Baron, that's perhaps sufficient. But this is a generally interesting issue, I would think especially interesting to fat cats who will be hiding in "gated communities" and such. Not to mention high Fed officials hiding in the 96 bunkers in the Virginia countryside (and THEY rake US 'cross the coals for having bunkers!)

Lucifier's Hammer has an implicit potential for the P-G-P, but it isn't recognized as such and doesn't develop far. Well, perhaps all those fat cats have sufficient "auras of authority" as the leonine Senator did... I'd watch out for George in the sequel though.
