I just don't know about "Pastor Peter J.Peters" He says fears of nuclear holocaust in the 1950s and 1960s were "manufactured fears". Why2k, are you familiar with the general effects of a hydrogen bomb? Holy Smokes, Batman, that whole city just went kaplooey. I'm sure the Pastor is well intentioned, let's just say I'm not going to be hiring him in the risk management arena.

I will say this. There's not much the average citizen could do about nuclear holocaust. In stark contrast, Y2k suffering, at least in this unbelivably wealthy country, could be greatly diminished if proper preparedness were put into place.

You're (us your-done-fore's - I think is their term) forgetting something here.

There appears to be a tremedous, well-organized, high-level, high-money deliberate attempt to denigrate, disinform, and deny to the public the potential threat from troubles stemming from infrastruture failure next year.

If so, is it not apparent that any ability to "link" mentally those who are preparing with those who this adminstration already has declared terrorists and extremist-survivialist fanatic? If there are already wild-eyed Nazi freaks, racists, extremists, actual terrorist groups out there, does it not make sense to link them in the public's mind with those conservative christian groups who are legitimately preparing. you are dealing in propaganda, impressions, sound-bites handed to a compliant media and disinformation here - not facts, actual analysis, or pro/con positions.

Isn't just getting this group and Y2K in the same headline all they want? After al, all they need is an excuse - right? The facts have never mattered yet to this crew - why start now?

Looks like some buttons have been pushed. My apologies. Obviously you're all entitled to your opinions, but I'd like you to take a look at the kind of knee-jerk reaction my post inspired. Don't you see? The very way you have demonized Christian Identity is the manner in which members of the Y2K "cult" will be demonized in the near future. I doubt that many will check for themselves, but the true Identity message is nothing like what "d" wrote, or should I say copied in the form of disinformation from the Southern Poverty Law Center's site.

In response to "d"'s enlightened opinion: On the contrary, I 'get it', and do believe that Y2K will be a disaster (which belief seems to be more like an article of faith than an opinion on this forum), although not for the reasons most here seem to believe. I provided the link for those who might be interested in a different point of view on Y2K. I am not a racist. Implicit in the term 'racist' is the belief in one's own race's superiority, and the inferiority of other races. I feel the white race may be supremely stupid, but not supreme in any other way. Every race was created by God, and has its own merits.

Think about what I have said. Soon, the appelation of "GI" will carry the same perjorative sense as "Christian Identity"... prepare to be vilified.

I'm sorry Why2K?, but the information I posted is correct. In the christian identity web site they link to, what they call "like minded sites."

Let's see what they have to offer huh? Hmm, a publisher called Weisman Publications. They print such classics as, "America: Free, White & Christian" and "Discrimination: The Key To Sanity."

Wow, that doesn't sound racist at all. Lets see what else we can find. I would sure hate to seem closed minded.

Actually, the identity cultists (and they refer to themselves as "Israel-Identity" or "the church of Jesus Christ - Christian, among themselves) have been labeld as a cult by every major Christian cult study organization.

Moreover the identity cultists are directly connected with both the Aryan Nations AND the National Front, two neonazi organizations which advocate (among other things) the violent overthrow of the United States.

Never, Never, NEVER trust a nazi. Never turn your back on one, never allow one onto your property, never give them any idea what you may or may not own. They have absolutely no loyalty whatsoever to anyone outside of their own organizations; they are ruled entirely by fear; and they are taught blind obedience to their leadership to the point where they eventually lose all moral sense.

I have no use for them under any circumstances.

Some Identity folk are nazis, no doubt about it. I've met them, and find them and their philosophy utterly repugnant. Some are white supremacists, and I despise them also. I've also met Catholics, Muslims and Jews who are evil. However, the majority of Identity adherents are decent, hard-working people who care a great deal about their country. There's been some pretty wide brushes used here... all I can say is that I sincerely hope that similar brushes are never used on you.
