Greg, Detail in the plumage and bill, and point of focus are great. I like the soft light. The log (fence post) he's standing on looks a little artificial, but that's minor. Good shot overall. Its a juvenile night heron of some sort, probably black-crowned.

I like this shot too. The detail in the feet, which many Heron shots don't have, Head detail. It would be nice if the background was not so close in color\tone to the bird. Thanks for posting it.

This is a fine shot. Arhtur Morris says you can place a bird in the middle of the frame in a vertical shot, but I would position this heron a bit more to the right of the frame since it is looking towards the left of the frame.

Depth of field has to be very shallow with a 300mm + 2x TC, but I would try to get a bit more depth of feild so that the heron's chest is in focus. A slightly out-of-focus chest is somewhat distracting as the way it is now (because the human eye and mind will try to focus something that is slightly out of focus. Something way out of focus won't have this problem).
