Millennium Factor: The Truth About Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've been following some of the threads about our documentary in the group and want to say that I'm pleased that folks have responded to it. Our objective was to do the most in-depth and unbaised documentary possible on the subject and to avoid "sensational" treatment of the issue.

Some of you might be interested to know that we got interested in this subject, and went into it expected to do a "hoax" piece that would expose the doomsayers but after doing almost six months worth of in-depth research and then four more months of interviews with some of the top people in the country...I was personally pretty scared.

I hope that our program reflects some of this attention to detail. I know that it has converted a lot of DGI's in circles to GI's pretty quickly and I think that speaks more to the credibility of folks like Dr. Bob Alloway and Irene Dec who appear in our video. Also pretty telling are the scenes were Senator Dodd is grilling Jane Garvey of the FAA about their situation.

Lastly, I'd like to let everyone know that we have posted a link to Time Magazine's special report about the FAA and Y2K on our site. We will continue to update the material contained in the documentary and expand on it via our web site. If you're interested, simply follow the link below:

Of course we want to sell copies of our program, but more importantly we want for people to remain focused on this issue. If we can answer any questions, we'll be happy to. Thank you again for all the positive comments on our program. A lot of folks worked really hard on this, and it's always uplifting to hear positive comments.

Thank you Les! Your story of how you came about to be a "GI" is heart warming and encouraging. Only a few months ago we were discussing and lamenting on how oblivious to Y2K the media was, and how those who bothered to write anything were such idiot DGI's. More and more now we see serious reporting like yours.

The Millennium Factor site is another gem to bookmark folks, daily updates on Y2K headlines.

Here's an example of a link given on Millennium Factor site:

Kansas City Business Journal: The Y2K bug has infested investors' minds, according to a recent survey by Piper Jaffray Inc.

In the survey, almost 40 percent of respondents worry that the Y2K bug will hurt their investments.

"People are skeptical about what's going to happen," said Joe Gravino, assistant vice president at Piper Jaffray. "The investors are still in a quandary about who to listen to and what to do."

Information about Y2K and the financial markets have inundated the media. Nevertheless, Gravino said investors should spend extra time evaluating their investments before making any changes.

"We encourage people to become familiar with the specific issues, Gravino said."

Les, I received my copy yesterday. First, it is "frickin" incredible! I must ask you a couple of questions-

How did you get so many people that work on Y2K projects for hospitals to agree to go on camera?

I was shocked to see Duncan McDonald, the former general counsel of City-Corp say "Y2K scares me" and then go on to say "we are in the range of a cover-up". Do you know if he has written any articles or appeared in any other broadcasts?

My father, a retired vet, has not taken this issue seriously for the last year. Last night I made a deal with him. I would spring for dinner if he would agree to watch the tape with me. It worked. The fact is, he could not argue with the facts presented by so many experts. Actually, it was Arnaud de Borchgrave of the Washington Times saying "...there WILL be a global crisis" that did it for him.

Perhaps the media will take your lead and start covering this issue with the depth it deserves.

Declan, if you are out there, I have to give credit where credit is due. Your comments in the video on the media's coverage of Y2K were very insightful.

Last question for Les, Have you made any personal preparations?

Craig,

You have always sounded like a reasonable & intelligent person. I am not going to attack you, I just want you to consider somthing. Ask yourself what is the purpose of television/radio/newspapers/magazines? To Entertain? Inform? Educate? If you OWN them the purpose is to SELL things. Products, information, policy, puplic opinion. Now, go find out WHO owns these things, and then go find out what else they own. Think about (your opinion) what special interest they might have (or their major advertisers) and then go back and pay attention again to the information that they distribute. You will find many of these corporations have more money than most COUNTRIES. You will find that they never distribute information that will not serve their (or their big $$ advertisers) best interests. It's business 101. If you get that far, you are at the tip of the iceberg....keep going.

y2k sounds insane as well, until you do research.

Deborah

P.S. We still have much freedom in our country that I love. Much more power than even we realize. The insult to our founding fathers and all that died to insure our freedom would be to remain asleep and unquestioningly swallow the swill we are spoonfed by a media with self ingratiating motives. Abraham Lincoln said during the Civil War that in the long run, the Bankers were a bigger threat to our republic than the Southern Army, that if they weren't stopped eventually the money would be in the hands of the few & the Republic would be destroyed. Guesss What? Sorry, you have to do the homework yourself.
