Jim, I like the composition of the image but the sepia tone, or B&W, doesn't work for me. The bird is lost in the lack of contrast normally provided by the color differences. Just MHO.

I have to agree with Michael. I love black and white, but my first reaction to this really nice image was to wish I could see the colors.

Thanks, as always, for the comments. Perhaps I'll have to post the color version when my slides come back from the lab.

Incidentally, this film is T400CN and I was just messing around with it. I don't shoot B&W nature too much, but I liked this shot.

What I enjoy most about this shot is the lighting, both on the diagonal reeds overhanging the heron and on the bird itself. Nice compostion!
