I need information on how I can convert an existing Audio CD player to Play Video CDs (Ver.2.0).

Can any MPEG chips do the job?

No way that I cna think of. A player has to be one to begin with plus the chips to do MPEG are for OEMs only. That means you have to work fro Sony, Panasonic, etc. Sorry.

There used to be an add-on board floating around the 'net that would turn any CD player into a VCD. The webpage has since disappeared, though. If you find anything, e-mail me. -Ben Smith benjamin-smith@utulsa.edu

If you live near L.A. California or in the United States then you can ship your player to a store called Five Star Laser. For about $100 US (not includeing shipping) they can modify your Audio CD player to read and play VCDs. It even comes with a remote. Here is the Web Address: www.fivestarlaser.com.

Audio CD player to Video CD player conversion is a quite a large scale business in India. Conversion involves replacing the CD player board with a third party board most of whish are of Taiwanese make. The costs here are around Rs.2700 which is just about 60 dollars. I have seen quite a few converted audio CD players from companies like Aiwa,Sony,Sansui and Phillips. So the thing works - the output is rather good - you get a seperate remote for the Video functions and the audio CDs continue to play fine. While I know it is being done I have'nt been able to find out technical data regarding how and companu names of the third party board manufacturers. So, if anybody can throw more light - i'll be glad.

to convert an audio player into vcd player you need an audio video card and connect it to the RF output of the player .
