Aeon in any order?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

HI everyone!

I'm a BIG Aeon fan and I absolutly LOVE this website. There aren't many people around to discuss Aeon Flux with! I've always thought that there is a large amount of depth that goes into these episodes. I have a question that has been bugging me for a long time---Do you think that these episodes are in any order? I mean chronological order, not when they were run on MTV. It seems like in some episodes that Aeon is more friendly with Trevor then in others. Some episodes have greater sexual tension between the two, while other episodes it seems like they have already had sex! The only episode in which they have sex is "A Last Time For Everything", and I was wondering if the other episodes took place before it or after it! Any thoughts? Thanks!

Well, they have a production order, so yes. But the viewer can put them in any order that he/she feels that they should be in. For example when I make people tapes of Aeon Flux I have it in this order: Aeon Flux (entire first season), Opening, U or D, Thana, Gravity, Isthmus Cryp, Last time, Leisure, Purge, Opening, Reraisure, Tide, Ether Drift Theory, Chrono, War, Demiurge, End Sinister, Night, Opening. But this is just the way I feel that it flows. And they do have sex in End Sinister.

Thanks for the fast response! I've often wondered about that.. In that great episode with Una (I haven't memorized the names of the episodes yet, sorry!) Aeon has left her jacket with her. At the end of the episode Una essentialy gives back the jacket... In some episodes Aeon was wearing it, in some episodes not... Hmm.. Well, thanks!

Well the only thing I DO know for sure is that Thanataphobia (the one with Una) comes before A Last Time for Everything (Aeon's clone), because Aeon mentions to Scaphandra how she couldn't believe they found out about her secret tunnel, which is why she has to make the risky border run instead.

One thing about the AF universe that makes it so fresh and intriguing is the fact that it is mostly non-linear. Anything can happen, in any order, and this helps the stories in a way by giving the writer artistic freedom. You don't have to worry about getting the hero(s) all home safe and sound for the next episode, like Star Trek for example (my one gripe about that show- you know everything's going to end up OK). Personally, I don't think that any of the shorts fit anywhere in any kind of "Aeon continuity" if there even is such a thing. Just my opinion of course.

btw, good to meet someone else with an "original" hotmail address!

Wow! I've always, until recently, believed "A Last Time for Everything" to be the last episode. I realized that "End Sinister" would be a more appropriate ending.. (It's weird to think that the clone of Aeon and not the real thing is running around in her place-- it's just not the same.) Thanks for your opinion!

Isn't the one with Una called Isthmus Crypticus?

-- Spofforth (Spofforth@hotmail.com), February 05, 1999.

ARRGH! Yes, i got mucho confused! I meant SYBIL, who knows where Una came from. That's why I AM the oopsmaster! oops.

A Last Time for Everything holds a lot of meaning for me. It was one of the first episodes I saw, and I couldn't believe that the original Aeon had been killed, and Trevor had let the clone go anyway. The whole story was just so shocking and romantic that it was pretty much the episode that got me hooked in the first place.

"A Last Time for Everything" has to be my favorite Aeon Flux Epsiode-- close second to "The Purge". "A Last Time for Everything" was SO great! I could watch it again, and again (and believe me, I do!!). Such a sweet episode.. My favorite part is when Trevor is talking about Amino acids and humans being "not so unusual" and Aeon says, "It suits me" Trevor replies, "Yes...It does." His facial expression is PRICELESS! :) God, I love talking about this show!

The order that season 3 was shown on MTV: Utopia or Deu.., Istmus Crypticus, Thanataphobia, A Last Time For Everything, The Demiurge, Reraizure, Chronophasia, Ether Drift Theory, The Purge, End Sinister.

Indeed, there isn't much continuity between episodes. There are linear connections between a few episodes, but remember that in seasons 1 and 2, Aeon died at the end of each adventure. I've always thought of the show as having an ongoing plot and not having an ongoing plot at the same time!

Whoever pointed out the closing of the secret tunnel in Thanataphobia vs. A Last Time For Everything was right on. Also, Aeon's hallucination in Chronophasia where she sees various spurned characters from episodes 1-6 might indicate some continuity, but then again it was just a hallucination...

End Sinister comes last, of course. I figure that Utopia or Deut... comes first, because it shows Aeon and Trevor beginning to know each other, and shows the cameras being installed all over Bregna.

Actually, no. They were two different sections: C and D. I suspect it was meant to be a reference, perhaps they made a mistake, but as it stands they're two different places.

I'm continually perplexed why people seem to insist that "End Sinister" has to be the final episode in chronological order. Besides it being the last episode produced, and besides having a finality in the title, this episode may just as well be in the middle. "Ether Drift Theory" is just as possible a "last" episode as this one is. Just because Aeon and/or Trevor die or are put into unusual circumstances, doesn't mean that said episode is more established in the timeline than any other.

Because it's awe-inspiring, and you should always "save the best for last". Heh heh.

I think that Chronophasia could possibly be the last episode due to the fact that in the end her and the child seem to leave the disordered time Aeon is from and enter "normal" reality. All the other shows have just been other possibilities that Aeon was hallucinating. It's food for thought at any rate. =)

They have sex in the Herodotus Files, too...

-- Telemental (panaceag@lvcm.com), March 23, 1999.

I've always thought of the full-length episodes as one continuous series, just look at the relationship between Aeon & Trevor. They go from flirting in episode 1, to making out in episode 5, to casual sex in episode 10... alright, so they did have sex in episode 4, but in that one Aeon paid with her life. Later, she (at least, a carbon copy of her) was able to do the same thing with little or no emotional attachment. See what I mean?

i don't really think there is any particular order. it's like a new life of aeon every time, which is cool. i always thought that they should have some episodes that are in order. like a longer episode. i am always amazed by how much thought they can get into one episode. does anyone know what the name of the episode where trevor becomes the leader of breanna. because clavius is like crazy? that one is awsome but my favorite i would have to agree is a last time for everything.
-- (Aeonfluxfan1@Aol.com), March 24, 2000.

The episode in which Trevor gains control of Bregna through Clavius' insanity is called Utopia or Deuteronpia, or is it Deuteronopia, i'd have to watch the opening again to be sure.

-- Stonce (neobe@kscable.com), March 25, 2000.

I'm fairly sure the protagonists have sex (with each other) much and often.

I seem to remember Aeon wearing the jacket she left with Una in The Purge. She also inexplicably changes to her usual outfit during her private audience with Principal Lorna. I can't remember her wearing it anywhere else...

-- Frostbite (mbkrooks@bellsouth.net), March 26, 2000.

You're absolutely right. I watched Reraizure again and those pictures were enough to convince me, Aeon did indeed have sex with Trevor before End Sinister.
