Today I received David Wilkerson's latest mailing, and here are two sections from his cover letter which touched me:

[David Wilkerson] "I have been asked, 'Do you still say a depression is soon to hit the United States, even though the market has rebounded to over 9,500 points (January 9)?' My answer is, 'Yes -- more than ever!' I've been saying for months that the market could rebound as high as 10,000 points. But the day is not far off that it will crash. And it will cause the worst time of panic in America's history." "Almost every economic forecaster is now saying, '1999 will be a good year -- IF....' IF there is no economic breakdown in Latin America. IF there are no other surprises. Yet these big IFs are unknown. I believe the big IF we'll see is a sudden, unexpected panic! It will be fueled by fear, and in a very short time there will be a race for the exits."

After reading those words, my awareness clicked up a degree. For months I have been thinking the Y2K panic would start no earlier than late summer and maybe not even until late Autumn. Could this Y2K panic take place as soon as Spring? Maybe some will think me too doom and gloom, but after I read David Wilkerson's words, I imagined even most of those preparing for Y2K will shocked by the UNEXPECTED TIMING of this panic.

Does anyone else perceive David Wilkerson is warning of an earlier than expected Depression?

I am a pastor who just finished reading David Wilkerson's new book: "God's Plan to Protect His people in the Coming Depression". It is an excellent book for all... but especially sleeping Christians.

He doesn't mention y2k until the last chapter. The whole book is what he believes is about to happen, y2k or no y2k: A total global economic collapse. He points out how it is already in progress in Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Russia and Japan etc. and beginning in Latin America with Brazil.

For those who don't know, Wilkerson use to be a gang leader in New York, who found Christ and founded a multi-million dollar church in Texas. Committing himself to prayer for a week he found God calling him back to New York City. He went and started a church in Times Square ministering to addicts and prostitutes and the like.

He is direct in his speaking and writing. He doesn't mince words. He writes that God has shown him that an economic collapse is coming to our shores in the U.S. soon. In a day or overnight. It will hit suddenly and unexpectedly. He doesn't say when. He only says soon. He is teaching his church how to prepare and in this book he has an appendix on what he wants his people to store.

The great value of his book to me is that he writes most of the book telling us the good news about a God who wants to care for us and help us in the days ahead. He goes back to the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, and shows how God spoke through them to warn his people then of a mighty shaking and judgment. God sees that people in the U.S. have put their confidence in their money and make pleasure their #1 priority. He sees the shedding of innocent blood, the impurity, and immoral spirit of our leaders and the media. He sees the acceptance of homosexuality and the blaspheming of His name. The coming collapse will shake up people, wake up people, especially the sleeping church. It will be used of God to save people and reveal to the world that there is a God in Heaven, Who knows the end from the beginning.

I heartily recommend this small book. It shows what the weathermen and babel2000.com have been saying....that there are three stages to preparations: spiritual, physical, and financial.

Yes, a market crash could happen at any time and almost make y2k a non event. I expect it and plan for it. Millions will lose their jobs and it will last for years. Do you have enough food for seven years? Do you have enough money for Seven years? Then turn to the Lord. Matt.6:8. He is our only true shelter, sure foundation, and great Provider. He is willing to show each one of us how to prepare and how to be ready. He wants our confidence to be in Him ..not in our supplies.

I must confess that I have placed a lot of confidence in my supplies and plans. Wilkerson's book is correcting that. I am ordering fifty copies and sending them to friends and others to warn them to wake up. The crisis that's coming to the earth will not be averted by fixing two digit code. May God help us.....literally.

If you don't, then all of that food & money (not to mention all your women-folk) will quickly belong to someone else, who most likely doesn't hold the same religious views as you do.

Surprise!! I have several guns to protect my loved ones if needbe. My point is this. What if this worst case scenario plays out for 7-10 years. Who here is prepared to homestead for that long? Not too many. That is why our trust must be in the Lord, Who fed the 5000, fed Elijah in a time of famine and drought, fed and gave water to Israel in the desert for forty years etc. etc. God has ways of bringing us to the end of ourselves so we may put our trust in Him.

Pastor Bob - Thanks for your insight. Some can benefit from your exchange of information and the sources, while others look elsewhere for validations. People on this forum strive to be informed, so the comment about "preaching" does not reflect everyones view. I'm surprised that someone feels they can represent this forum.

I, for one, look for as many connections, references, and abservations pertaining to y2k as I can, in all aspects. Many references that are not "Christian based" have relevance. We have to examine all information, which is a vast undertaking.

I agree. I can not relate to multi-million dollar churches. Many are raised my men and not God. But what do you do when people so believe in the message you are preaching they contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars? When I said church, I didn't mean church building. I meant ministry, sorry. After you hear or read Wilkerson you soon find that money is not what he is about. IMO, having money is not the sin. The Bible says that it is "the love of money that is the root of all evil."

"This week I got a newsletter from David Wilkerson. Does anyone else know who he is? He pastors a very large church in Times Square (New York City.) Some probably consider him to be rather "extreme" in some of his views, but it's interesting to me how many things he has "seen" prophetically that have come to pass- just like he said.

Here is what he "saw" going on in New York City. He doesn't give an exact date for it: "On the country road that night, I was seeing in my mind's eye New York City burning in flames. I saw more than a thousand fires burning at one time. There were riots, bloodshed, tanks rolling into the streets, troops wielding rifles in an attempt to restore order. People were mobbing grocery stores for provisions, looting merchants, raging out of control. I realized that when riots come, there will be no food left in grocery stores. Computer disasters will affect their jobs and paychecks. Violence on the streets could keep them shut up in their homes, perhaps for weeks."

He goes on to share that God gave him a plan to help the people prepare. He is telling all of his church members to begin storing up a 2-month supply of food and other essentials."

If this "picture" he saw of New York City "on fire" was a result of Y2K, we are in for some interesting times!

And before you are too quick to condemn his "multi-million" dollar facilities, you should know that they include several buildings to house unwed mothers, recovering drug addicts, homeless families, etc.

Pray and Plan!

A recently widowed women wants to remain in the house where she and her husband raised their children. Because she lives alone, she purchased a home alarm system. Now she feels hypocritical when she prays for protection. But she need not feel guilty. In the Bible, wise planning and humble dependence on God go hand-in hand.

Nehemiah provides us with a biblical illustration of how to combine planning with prayer. He was a Jew far from home, working as cupbearer to the king of Persia. After the nation of Isreal had been in captivity for 70 years, Cyrus, the first Persian king, allowed a number of Jews to go back home. Later, Ezra took more Jews back to Jerusalem and rebuilt the temple. In the first chapter of Nehemiah, though, we read that the returned captives were having a terrible time, and the walls of the once great city of Jerusalem lay in ruins. (v.3).

Nehemiah wept, fasted, and prayed when he heard about the distress of the Jews who had returned to Jerusalem from exile. But he also acted, making careful plans and taking a great risk in asking the king for permission to help the Jews.

So, too, if we maintain a humble dependence on God, it's wise to do what we can. So pray---- and plan!--- HVL

Thank you for your imput. I've ordered copies of David Wilkerson's latest book and hope to get them soon.

I had been considering purchasing a generator with ample storage containers for fuel to keep my place warm during the winter and to provide electricity should the Y2K panic make the electric grid go down, but if this coming panic will produce a lengthy Depression lasting many months (or possibly up to seven years as the Pastor pondered), then I suspect gasoline and other fuels will cost dearly, and I don't feel like fighting over poisonous chemicals.

I'm planning on going low tech by ordering a cast iron wood burning stove. Here in northwestern Ohio are many woodlands. I've considered purchasing a chainsaw and going Paul Bunyan until I cut ample wood to last for thousands of burnings. But if many others go low tech in similar fashion, then America might become known as the Great Smoking Wasteland. Any additional heating hints? Other advice? Thank you.

Aren't you suppose to be extinct? :)

The easy answer to the heat problem is 'go south'. Many will if the grid goes down and/or fuel is scarce and expensive or unobtainable (lost jobs). The best way is to go solar but that is expensive. A wood stove is great if you can get wood. If you decide wood, you can start to stock up now.

I agree with you that fuel will be a problem. However, I still will have propane and barrels of gas at least to get me into the summer of 2000. If the grid is down or fuel is unavailabe at that time, I expect Government will regulate whatever is available. I also believe communities will come together to figure out a plan.

There are excellent magazines like "Countryside" and "Backwood Homes" that have back issues you can buy to help you with your decisions.

A long time ago I heard a preacher say (half joking) 'when someone starts praying for wisdom DUCK!' In other words wisdom comes by experience which isn't neccesarily easy & most often difficult.

Many people including myself have been praying for revival. DUCK! God's ways of bringing us to the end of ourselves so that we may put our trust in Him may be a bumpy ride.

I personally didn't come to the Lord easily. I went to hell & back. Is that where our Nation (world) must go?

Thank you for telling us about the book. Just one more piece of the puzzle. I'm going to buy it.

P.S. Before I GI I was given a case of church candles by a neighbor, the kind that burn a long time. My husband was given sterno. I don't believe in coincidence and was restless. What are these for? y2k? No that's not real. Later that week Chicago Trib ran a very good y2k story. Good enough to compel me to learn more. The last time I really felt God speaking to me in His word was Oct. (kind of a long silence) but He had been saying to wait on Him. (from Isaiah)I was like, oh Lord that's so bogus. How long? What for? Silence. Finally, Jan.1, y2k. GI. AAAAAAAARRRRGGGG!! I felt like I had been asleep and woke up. How could I have slept so long? God allowed it. I know I'm really rambling, but I don't know where else to vent this stuff. I'm just not ready to open this can of worms at Church yet.

We all have our moment with God. It is when we make a decision to live our life for Him or turn from Him and do it ourself. Doing it ourself usually works until we find ourself in the woods and don't know how to get out.

Today I went to the Prayer Breakfast in D.C. Max Lucado was excellent.The president, I believe, was moved. After that about fifty of us pastors went over to the senate building to pray from 12 till 6. It was an unbelievable experience. We confessed our own sin and asked for wisdom from God for our leaders.

I met Senator Lieberman as he was leaving and talked to him. He is an honest man. He knows that politics has kept our leaders from doing God's will. For that, America hangs in the balance. Pray that God will have mercy on us all. The opposite is unthinkable. Only those who put their trusts in Him will be safe in that day. Nahum 1:7
