I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU TO TERESA FISHER who took the time to send me a summary of "Time Bomb 2000". Also to all of you who were scorned by my response that I am "very concerned" but "don't have the time to read a whole book" I am sorry that you have nothing better to do with your time than criticize others for having a life. I do want to say however to Ed, I decided to read some of the book and found it very interesting and also very informative. While some of it was somewhat creative, it was certainly worth the read. I will be happy to recieve any responses to this.

I am curious. What, if anything, are you going to do now that you know a little more? I am not trying to be a wise @##. I am just asking. Some people read info. on Y2K and feel compelled to prepare for possible disruptions. Others are not so inclined. I wonder which way you are leaning at this point.

I think that the point of those critical comments is that if you don't have the time to find out what's going on in the world then you are a part of the problem.

If you can't spend a few hours reading one little book, then you'll never capture the magnitude of Y2K. You certainly won't get it from the 20 second sound bytes on TV news.

If you aren't able to discern what's going on that must mean that you are waiting for someone to tell you what to do. Your "life's" so busy with meaningless things that some authority must direct you to the life boats?

Well, they have. FEMA, the American Red Cross, and even the National Guard now all have adopted the Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared

Now, since this is serious business, and could impact every aspect of your current "life", it is suggested that a good place to start is to read the book, dummy!. Then decide where your own precious life can be at risk. Then take steps (prepare)to survive what appears to be coming in a meaningful fashion.

For some of us that means laying aside things that may be in short supply in the very near future. Most also get their heads out of their own meaningless existence and concern themselves with the safety and care of their neighbors, both by trying to alert them and by actually laying aside provisions for them.

Frankly, are you looking for someone to pat you on the back because you read some of the book? Hey, here's an easy read. Go to Cory Hamasaki's DC Y2K Weather Report and read a few of the back issues. Cory is a respected computer consultant, & specializes in mainframe (big iron) computers). See what he has to say about the situation -- and what he's preparing to do about it.

You have a life? Good. Spend a little of it learning what's going on in the world around you and you may be allowed to keep it.
