What th..Hey!

Brazil.. problems with coffee crop and economy. Columbia.. problems with coffee growing area following earthquake.

Hence:

Expect coffee price rising soonish.

Buy now or pay more later...

Seems like a good idea to get down to your store and onto your coffee supply.. ASAP

Hmmmm,

And I thought this was a Y2K discussion forum. No wonder there's such a bandwidth problem here. Well, thanks for the tip anyway.

Yes, add coffee to the stockpile/barter list. I had a heads-up on how important it is. Secretary went directly to a training this AM, and no coffee until 10:00. Wah, wah, sob.

If you look back in history during troublesome times, coffee was very expensive and almost impossible to get in some places. Wal Mart has cans of Butternut Coffee for $1.50 a can. I haven't tried it yet, but when no one else has any to sell I guess I'll be in like Flint.

bardou - wont that depend on whether Flint has coffee??

sorry couldn't resist...

Besides I've already started accumulating cans of the stuff, and I still have to move...none the less, one must have *some* priorities, no?

I know someone else here said it first, but it bears repeating - coffee, cigarettes and booze are always very good barter items. (I also stock canned milk and sugar, to go with my coffee). If the price of coffee is about to take an express elevator, I submit that now is obviously the time to buy your Y2K stock.

No, he would deny all knowledge of coffee existing.

Paul Davis would say coffee may not exist in one hour's time.

Paul Milne would buy up some more coffee, cheap.

So would I.

Tricia - the price of coffee will take an expresso ride upwards.

Also, I think it is "in like Flynn" (vice Flint) but I have no idea "which" Flynn is being referred to: the early thirties-forties movie star perhaps?

Storing coffee? Like the almond growers ad used to say: "One can a week is all it takes." Except I'm laying up bottles instant coffee (Kava - the "de-acidified" kind) so all I need is the hot water and powder creamer - figure I can't "burn" a pot of boiling water like you can a pot of brewed coffee..

For those who have to have it, Sam's has vacuum-packed Millstone bean coffee, 2lbs for around $9-10, versus $8/lb at the supermarket. (Or was a month ago.) You'll need a hand-crank grinder for your stash, of course, and probably one or two lifetime filters.

I get my coffee at Costco, 3 lbs ground Columbian coffee for around $5. Only have 4 cans so far, thanks for the reminder Integrator, I'm going back tonight, getting at least 30 cans. "Coffee" just doesn't get it or doesn't know what being caffeine addicted is like ;-) This stockpile is just for my own consumption, I'd barter my dog for a cup of coffee ;-)

But I can stop any time I want to of course - I probably only drink two-three pots a day max. Maybe a bit more if I'm tired.
