FYI, the population of Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities (Linn County) is approx. 200,000

you know Arnie, this brings up another issue - while various levels of government have their quotes of DGIs and DWGIs, I gotta wonder what the reaction is going to be of competent and responsible government officials who suddenly GI and realize that there's no time to fix what's wrong...

Arlin: Do you mean their public or private reactions? ;-)

Douglass Carmichael, who is a vociferous Y2K-preparedness advocate, did some great thinking about this (take a look at http://www.tmn.com/~doug/dcnote18.htm). He talks about the "official future." This refers to those in authority, civic and business leaders, who are absolutely unable to see any future for themselves other than "everything's rosy - full speed ahead!" The tendency going forward will be for these people to use their positions to coerce this future, no matter what it takes. Think about that... how badly will they want to be right and not change their plans for the future?

Doesn't matter what their plans for the future are - the future will happen with or without their cooperation or planning.

Computers will fails regardless of whether the politicians like it or not. The only thing they can do is prepare for the failure - or decide not to prepare and get the failure anyway.

The question is: How many other city/county governments are in the same position as this one, BUT SAY THEY ARE "READY"??????????

I mean that's what our FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is doing for the most part..........

THINK ABOUT IT !!!!!!!!!!!!
