Ogeche Tupelo, Suwannee River

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Taken with and old TLR rolli, tmax 100 normal development, printed on Ilford MGIV (split contrast 3.5/2, tree/river). The exposure was for the back lite tree, but the river washes out on a straight print. Does Tmax respond to the overexposure / underdevelopment procedure for extending tonal range?

I really like this image, it is very calming even though the water looks as if it were flowing quite quickly. I would perhaps have liked to see less of a downward angle, but thats my own personal preference. Well done.

Hi Larry,

I agree with Altaf that this looks like a nice, peaceful place even with the strong current. I too would like to see a lower perspective and maybe a little more of those translucent leaves at that top. I also think the left-most tree trunk takes away from the shot. It is just hanging out there blocking my view of the river. I do like the square format and I think you handled the exposure of this image quite well given the extreme contrast.

Regards,

Larry, Nice job of holding detail in the river. Looks like you chose a slow exposure to emphasize the motion of the river, which lends a nice contrast to the solid, "anchored" tree. I like the way you cropped the tree at the top and the downward-looking angle. It really focuses in on the interesting roots and the curving limbs.
