I am the tax collector in our town and was wondering how the property taxes are figured in Hawaii or if they even have them. I know some states don't. Also what is the average cost of houses?

Answers

The city and counties of the various islands figure out the rates based on their valuations (asking prices, sold prices, etc. of homes in the neighborhoods). A single wall construction house on about a 7- 8,000 sq ft lot with 3 bedroom and 1 1/2 - 2 bath is approximately $325,000 on Oahu and about $225,000 on the neighbor islands.)
