Rip out wall to wall carpets and put in vinyl for Y2K?

How in the world can I keep a wall to wall carpeted home clean in Y2K when I expect lots of people to be here and tracking in dirt? Is there something that can be done to get ready? Should I rip out the carpets and put in vinyl?

Ann: calm down. Lice and scabies and dirty carpets are going to be the least of your worries a year from now.

Gosh!....dare I admit that having a great excuse for NOT vacuuming, cleaning etc. was the ONE good thing I could see about Y2K?!!

How about buying one of those non-electric, broom-sweepers like they use in the restaurants? They do a pretty good job and are cheap.

Yes, Mary. We've ordered one of those Bissell carpet sweepers (folks like me who are, um, a little over 40 may remember them) from Real Goods. Vermont Country Store has them too. Only $30-50. This is one of these, "we'll get great use out of it, Y2K or no."

Walmart has the Bissell carpet sweepers.
