I just skimmed it, and my first impression is that it presents a lot of good news, and hints in places about bad news. The transcript of the video conference Janet Abrams had with Italian government representitives was much more informative.

I'd suggest that someone trying to gauge the possible severity of Y2K should also look at a recent FEMA update provided by FEMA:

Kevin, you did better than me if you skimmed the entire document. I couldn't get past this statement myself:

"7 International failures are likely. Despite recent increased efforts, a number of countries have thus far done little to remediate critical systems. These failures could have a significant impact upon the United States, especially in areas that rely heavily upon cross-border operations."

The phrase "These failures could have significant impact...especially in areas that rely heavily upon cross-border operations." sort of tells it all, no? Banking...imports... At the very least, it implies a Great Depression a la 1929, to me.

That is the same read that I got Nurse Lady. I will read the thing later, but for now I don't feel too warm and fuzzy about it.

Looking at the overall document - there is NO good news. Re-read it, but notice how little is reporting validation" or "testing" dates (about 10-15%) and how much "assessment" "will be done" by March, or by January, or whenever.

It is a very gloomy picture - if you read all the words, not the two sentence summary at the top that the news media released.
