CE effect - Intel tests, white paper due next week

Intel is putting out a white paper on the CE effect pretty soon. See this link

Seems they are having a lot of trouble even confirming that the CE effect really exists.

One begins to think that the CE effect is but a special case of the general instability of hte clocks in our computers. I have seen, before setting up socket watch, an interesting instability in the clock. Now, socket watch covers this, and I can find out how much it corrected, if I want to, anytime.

Chuck, can you give more info on the "Socket Watch" (references). One of my computers has an Asus TX-97 with lots of cards (sound, modem, Adaptec scsi, Matrox display with Rainbow Runner and TV, etc.) and it loses about 1 hour per month. It's very erratic and sometimes off by a whole day.
