heavy tripod?

Okay, heres the question: What is the heaviest/most sturdy tripod I can possibly buy in the price range of $100-150 (U.S.)?

Thanks, for any replies.

I'd go with the Bogen 3221/Manfrotto 055c. Should leave you with enough left over for a reasonable head like a 3030 pan-head or the 3262 ball-head.

Wait! In his book "The Art of Bird Photography", Arthur Morris specifically calls the Bogen 3221 inadequate. What does he know that we don't???

Stanley, I'm sure there could be several instances in which a 3221 is not enough (8x10 and larger format photography comes to mind), but for $100-$150.00 I doubt there's much that would do substantially better. I think I can safely say that a 3221 can support anything that any ball-head which cost less than the 3221 can hold.

You don't mention if you have a head or not, but if you do, or are not concerned about it being in addition to the $150, the Bogen 3046 is a beast. It is heavy, and is only about $150 +/- $5 for black or silver finish. If you mean heavy compared to department store tripods the 3021 will be fine. If you want HEAVY duty and don't plan to take pictures more than 50 feet from your car, the 3046 is probably the sturdiest in this price range. It makes the 3021 feel like a Wal-Mart Velbon, but is about 2-3 pounds heavier than the 3021, and much larger, and no adjustble leg angles.

Omar. I bought a Bogen 3221 and a 3030 head this past summer and love it. Total cost about 160 dollars including shipping from B&H. It is very sturdy. There are seperate leg locks to adjust the angle of each leg. Its much heavier than what I was previously been using So far I have not been the slightest bit disappointed.

Looks like i may give the bogen 3221 a try.

Thanks for the replies.

You can make any tripod instantly heavier and more stable by hanging your camera bag from it. Just don't let it fall
