Had lunch at the club to-day. Mentioned I'd received a computer for Christmas. Most of the women felt it was just something else to learn, didn't want to take the classes, or felt that their husbands would take care of the computer stuff. I've found it very exciting, but I guess I jumped in a little too quick. I've been thinking about this for most of the evening, and for some reason everybody thought my questions were very funny. I have many, many good friends because I make them laugh, and they know I don't take things too seriously. I'm going to print your "contributions" and mail them off. It might give them a laugh too. I have a close friend who has a newspaper and maybe he will put them in the paper. I have re-read the comments and there is a lot of good information and we could get together over the phone and try to figure this out. Half of the women at the lunch hadn't even heard of Y2K. I'm glad I have this web page, and though I'm very busy I'll try make an effort to keep informed. Hope you all have time to smell the roses--they really are lovely.

Thanks... I too was LOLROTFLMAO. No negative responses were ever intended on my part. You responses were great. What a scenerio it would have been. The lawn and roses Lady, discovers a great Y2K web site, as a newbie she proceeds ....a few posts to the site, the ladies at her club, the newspaper articles, a womens only conference at her estate, TV interveiws, then off to the hill, and then on to the White House, all the time trying to save her roses. Well now we have to play this out in our minds, how many LOLROTFLMAS have we missed. Print it out, give it to your friends, its full of great information. Diane: Thanks for the investigating. You just can't trust anyone anymore to tell you the truth. By the way, a little off the subject. Remember last week when you and Leska reported the PG&E bomb making material at a PG&E facility, in the locker of an employee? I know you were just reporting what was reported, however, as it turns out, he used the material to make firecrackers and sold them to employees. There's always more to the story or not enough facts. You just can't believe the media to tell you the truth or the facts.

That was my point Leska, you can't always believe what the media is saying. I heard on Paul Harvey yesterday, that a poll was taken and 70% thought Clinton should be impeached. Yesterday on CNN a poll was taken and 70% said Clinton shouldn't be impeached. Who are you going to believe? It's must be a conspiracy!

Really, I DO NOT believe the media is telling us the "whole" truth or "all" of the facts. Not even convinced they do much investigative reporting. At least, it's few and far between. Fortunately, there are a few. Very few. Finding them is the hard part.

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, bardou, in saying "There's always more to the story or not enough facts. You just can't believe the media to tell you the truth or the facts." Its sad that too many people in this country dont take the time to pay attention to the isolated indicators that more is brewing than meets the eye.

What I have noticed is that reading between the lines produces "leads and clues" that flag one to take another "lurk" around the net for follow-on leads. Supporting data. Snippets and clues. Behind-the- scenes verbiage. Remember the article on the CIA posted, and their statement?

..."We teach a concept called open source and public domain intelligence -- that is, taking what is in the public domain and creating new knowledge by analysis and interpretation," he said. "If you spend 20 percent of your intelligence budget on open source intelligence you'll be able to answer 70 percent of the boss's questions." ...

For newbies, this is what all of us on this forum and others are trying to replicate. So we can come to some kind of better understanding of the relative truth behind the mis and dis- information spin machine.

Also, the other advantage/disadvantage of the newsmedia machine is that they have an ENORMOUS impact on people's perceptions. If even 25% of the people in this country had the "idea" that it was time to start preparing for Y2K, even to the level of the two-week American Red Cross suggestions, more people, as a grass roots, word-of-mouth ripple effect, might make it through the 1999/2000 uncertainty coming soon to a town/city near them.
