They are repeating it right after, at 9:00 EST.

The first 90 minutes are on newspaper headlines (not Y2K), then the call in and interview about Y2K.

A very unbiased presentation of the problem. If this was broadcast on Tom Brokaw tonight we'd probably have panic tomorrow.

Tony Keyes made the remark that stock owners should pull out of small caps and switch to T-bills. Interesting to note that if (and when) people heed this advice, the stock market is finished.

# # # 19990102--C-SPAN - Washington Journal appearance ( Saturday, January 2, 1999, 8:20-10:00AM )

Greetings, Messrs. Hyatt and Keyes,

Kudos on your dignified, unfiltered guest appearance and discussion/interaction this morning ( 8:20-10:00AM ET ), of the ( computer ) "Year 2000 Millennium Bug" on the esteemed C-SPAN, Washington Journal program. It was excellent, long overdue, and personally inspiring. C-SPAN will, hopefully, perform a great public service, replaying this 1 hour and 40 minute program as often as possible. ( I was fortunate, and have recorded the original airing, intent on using it in future public and private forums. )

I have been doing my "own ( lone ) thing," via an informal "Year 2000 Citizen Action Group," in my community, hosting and presenting 5 ( FREE ) public forums, since February, 1998. I must admit to experiencing, heretofore, unimaginable frustration getting "solid" information into the public domain, where corporate-owned and controlled media have unconscionably failed miserably. I perceive that the pending advent of the "Year 2000 Techno-Ambush" will make my "hellish," in-country Vietnam War tour, seem like a quaint, idyllic "Sunday picnic" outing.

Your presentations and demeanors were/are, indeed, the best ( to-date ) "prescription" for prudently _alarming_ the citizenry to this computer failure emergency and urging appropriately measured, rational preparations to stockpile--not hoarding--water, food, medication, etc., in response to now-inevitable, catastrophic infrastructure disruptions. The scope and upheaval-generating disruptions will, for many _individuals_ in "computer dependent" societies around the globe--unfortunately--prove to be an "Extinction Level Event" ( E.L.E. )! *SIGH*

Thank you for your valuable contributions, amidst the milieu of--what I perceive to be--morally reprehensible "Year 2000" hucksters, shysters, and do-nothing political leadership around the planet.

I wish you both well and continued support for your spirited efforts to intelligently inform the citizenry of--reasonable and appropriate-- self-preservation strategies.

I have respectfully taken the liberty of incorporating links to your respective sites into my signature block for reference.

Regards, Robert Mangus # # #

At the end of the program, a caller asked what both speakers were doing to secure themselves financially. They both stated that they were out of the stockmarket completely and into liquid assets - gold, silver, cash.

To Nathan: How do you know this program is being repeated at 9pm est? Was is announced on CSPAN?

Excellent letter, Robert Mangus!

What a crock. Tony was pretty cool, just admitted he was a business man exploiting a situation for his own financial gain. Good for him.

Hyatt on the other hand was quite the piece of work. He admits he has no credentials and then says "Buy my book even though I don't know what I'm talking about." "I have been in the publishing business and am interested in PC's.

When the guy who worked at the electric company emailed "nothing we can't handle" Hyatt insults the guy's credentials and sends up a big smoke screen that since he only knows about electric companys he couldn't know what he's talking about. Well since Hyatt only knows publishing maybe he's a little behind the curve on electric companys. Hyatt is the ultimate slimeball snake oil salesman and can easily be dismissed but that for the fact that he says he's an expert and that's taken at face value by the media to fill their insatiable need for content. 57 channels and nothin on.

Would you buy a used car from this guy? I didn't think so. Then don't factor him in when planning your financial and emotional future.

It's really quite simple. If the utilities were compliant, then they would shout it from the rooftops. It is a very good bet that ALL utilities are getting inquiries from all sectors and have been for some time. My utility was getting private and commercial inquiries back in April.

There is no legislation in place to keep them silent like the banks. If they are not compliant, then they are instructing their respective PR departments to be silent on the subject and are issuing letters that make no commitment of compliance. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. It also SHOULDN'T take a Tony Keyes or a Michael Hyatt to spell it out for you either. The utilities are at risk which means everything else is at risk. Plain and simple.

K. Golden, they announced they would be airing the program again later.

Nathan, I only posted the Y2K notice just before they began it so people wouldn't have to listen to the earlier headlines.

The 25 Rules of Disinformation

Rule Number 4

Use a straw man. Find or create a seeming element of your opponent's argument which you can easily knock down to make yourself look good and the opponent to look bad. Either make up an issue you may safely imply exists based on your interpretation of the opponent/opponent arguments/situation, or select the weakest aspect of the weakest charges. Amplify their significance and destroy them in a way which appears to debunk all the charges, real and fabricated alike, while actually avoiding discussion of the real issues.

Michael Hyatts first y2k book is excellent as a primer - definitely worth buying. His novel on y2k however is beyond lame, it is absolutely useless, apallingly written - seems like he's trying to make a buck. There is always the outside chance that anyone reading the novel would research y2k further so that's a bonus point I suppose.

Kudos to both of them, keep the pressure on guys.

If we're going to automatically invalidate information provided by someone who may, for whatever reason, have a personal bias, let's start with Jimmy's posts. He is unquestionably influenced by personal beliefs. And who is not? It's a question of degree, of willingness to enter a dialog, of willingness to learn.
