My partner and I just returned from the local county tax office, we were renewing our business license. A gentlman in front of us, also there to pay his taxes which are due in January, was told he would have to come back at a later date because the computer would not take a 00 date. When asked when he should come back, the clerk could not give him an answer --"Just keep checking back". Don't know what system the county is using I just know the clerks are using a dumb terminal for data entry. My first Y2k sighting.

I plan on having a good walk around local businesses and govt. offices in the next week or so to see who's ready. From what I've seen so far, I doubt that many will be compliant yet.

My employer has been pretty hot to get all his Y2k problems solved, and this is a $20 million manufacturing plant. I believe he's made pretty good progress, but some real potential problems remain: how compliant are his material suppliers, trucking companies, and his customers. He's at their mercy, so to speak, even with workarounds.

He is pretty aware of it, and from what I can see, has made alot more progress than any other medium sized company in town.

I should check around and see if he's heard of tax-related problems yet.
