Looking for alternative power/other info & Ontario contacts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ontario 2000 : One Thread

We're looking for connections in our area to form Y2K group preservationists. We're also hoping to locate sources for alternative powersources, hydroponics, solarium's, possibly investors to build an independant survivors commune, & information on other related issues & topics.

We are still new to computers & if you can help in any way with information or listings in ont Ca., please respond.

Thank You.

Hi Frank,

When it comes to finding out about things like alternative power systems, a good place to start is always with "search engines" like AltaVista. The address there is:

http://www.altavista.com/

Just for the heck of it, I went there and typed in "hydroponics" (with the quotation marks). It turned up 37,000 hits, or pages that somehow have something to do with hydroponics. If you click this link, it will take you there, do the search on that word, and give you the same list I saw. Sort of show you what to expect...

Just do the same thing with any topic you want to find out about: Go to AltaVista (or any search engine), type the word or words into the text field (with the quotation marks around them), and click search. "Solar Energy" "Wind Chargers" "Wind mills" and "permaculture" is a word that will probably churn up a lot of stuff. (And there are help files there that will give you the basics on how to do searches.)

The link here will take you to the Time Bomb! 2000 forum. There's too much stuff there (about things I'm not all that interested in) for my taste, but you might get a kick out of it. And if you scroll down to the lower part of the screen there, to the list underneath, "Older Messages (by category)," you'll see a link that says "Alternative Energy." There's probably some useful stuff in there, and you may spot other interesting things while you're at it.

And this link will take you to Gary North's online forums where you might also find some useful info. You'll see a list of the different forums that are there. Just click and look around...

Here's a link to a listing in another forum I came across from someone in Ontario looking for other folks trying to get ready... (And you might want to post a message there too.)

And that's about all I've got for right now.

Good luck!
