From Sanger's Review

Hi gang. Here's a quick summary and links from Sanger's Review of Y2K News Reports. I just thought it would be worth it to reprint his summary of these particular articles here. Thanks again, Larry...

The Bumpy Road to Y2K (David M. Bresnahan, WorldNetDaily.com) U.N. Plans for Global Chaos (David M. Bresnahan, WorldNetDaily.com)

This is a two-part report on an interview with Sen. Robert Bennett, chairman of the Senate Y2K subcommittee. The articles contains some tidbits of important news:

A major financial company told Bennett that it had booked hundreds and hundreds of rooms in downtown New York City to house "computer experts from all over the country who can help solve last-minute problems that will only become known as the new millennium begins." The company has also cancelled vacations for Christmas and New Year's 1999.

With 80% of American workers employed in small businesses, Bennett is particularly concerned about the impact of the bug on small businesses, many of which have barely started (if they have started at all).

Bennett also discussed the warning system that will alert people in western time zones on Dec. 31, 1999 of problems that occur earlier on in eastern time zones, as the date rolls over to 2000. What can be done with this short notice? "Well, maybe nothing, but maybe something."

An unnamed source present at the closed-door U.N. sessions told author Bresnahan that "eventually, a formal request may be made to the U.N. for coordinated military action... Representatives in the meetings openly expressed their fears of unrest, and voiced a need for martial law, and the use of military and police SWAT teams." Bennett, however, believes there are no serious (contingency) plans for the U.S. federal government to declare martial law. He said, "I just don't see any indications of that. Until I see some suggestion that that really is happening I won't believe that it's under consideration."

Whereas Bennett first predicted a 40% chance of the power grid failing, he now says the number is in the "single digits -- 5 percent, 3 percent -- pick your number, it doesn't really matter, it's a relatively small chance that the power grid will fail." He says there will be brownouts, however.

Bennett discusses the problem of "falling dominos" at some length.

Bennett on bank compliance: "You have every right to contact your institution, whether it's a bank or a credit union, and ask, 'Are you going to be Y2K compliant?' If you don't have the answer that you deserve, then take your money out."

Of personal preparations -- stocking up on food and water -- as a reaction to reasonable predictions of failiures, Bennett says, "That's not fear, that's intelligent planning based on sound information. Every one of us has to take the responsibility for gathering his or her own information and then making personal decisions."

MVI - spot-on as usual. You would have to be clinically brain dead to be in New York on rollover. Or of course be under an Emergency Order directive :)

Which brings me to my next point...

"Bennett, however, believes there are no serious (contingency) plans for the U.S. federal government to declare martial law. He said, "I just don't see any indications of that. Until I see some suggestion that that really is happening I won't believe [huh!!! my quote, Andy, CD?] that it's under consideration.""

"I did not have sexual relations, with that woman...", finger wagging, eyes narrowing at the camera... LOL LOL LOL

When you start hearing official denials about Martial Law then you know that it's a sure bet.

Gimme a break. LOL.
