New Sigma EX 105mm f2.8 Macro or Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro

I wanted to get a macro lens in the 105mm range, the Nikon 105mm micro is above my budget and I just got to know that Sigma has a new 105mm macro, has anyone tried it, how's the performance and built quality? How does it compares with the Tamron 90mm macro? I wish to have some feedback before I buy the lens as we don't have a return policy here in Singapore. Thanks

Hi WS, I am not a Nikon user and I don`t have any experience with the Sigma and Tamron. However, there was a comparision test for Canon 100mm macro and the Nikon, Tamron and Sigma you mentioned in Practical Photography (GB) several months ago, they came to the conclusion that all of them do a good job but the Sigma and Tamron are the winner for the value of money. As Sigma has a cool look and it has HSM for Nikon, if I were you, I would buy the Sigma.

I recently went to B&H to purchase the canon 100 / 2.8 macro I got instead the Sigma 105 macro while saving about $150. I have shot two rolls so far and I am still learning how to get the best results from it. The optics of this lense is phenominal and I prever its handling to the top rated canon.
