Wow - amazing! I'm not a big fan of animal portraits finding them rather boring but what makes this picture different is its graphic - almost abstract - look. There're no technical deficiencies that distract - the more I look at it the more I like it! Great work!

This is one of the most impressive of the many heron shots I've seen on the photo critique sites. I like its simple design, sharp focus and perfect exposure.

I really like this a lot. Simple but very dramatic. Tell us what time of day you shot this and what was in the background. The very dark backgound makes this picture and I'm having a hard time imagining how you got it.

hello and thank you for your comments- i got this shot in the late afternoon- about 3pm. rain was on and off that afternoon and so it was overcast all day- except for about 10 minutes when the sun filtered through providing absolutely beautiful warm light (i was concentrating on a mallard drake when the warm light hit). i took this shot of the heron when he was standing on the grassy bank looking at another heron. i was able to inch forward and get much closer than i ever thought possible- it took a long time but it was worth it. greg

Very nice. The bird is in sharp focus and the exposure looks dead one and even.
