Hello all,

I was just wondering what type of posts would be on this forum in one year from today, if we are still allowed to use the net. My guess

1. I heard a rumor that bank X opened for 2 hours today.

2. How do I build a defence perimeter around my house?

3. I have 20 people come to stay if things get bad, How do I strech rice and spam? (Rice and Spam soup?)

4. Y2K will be a non-event! (They will still be here)

5. I just heard about Y2K, What do I have to do to prepare? (Good Bye)

6. House in the suburbs for sale, asking 1 years food supply for 4.

Any other thoughts?

Arlin: ROFL. One year from now...Hmmmm... many folks may have 'other' things on their minds well before then. Can't imagine how the volume in traffic will be handled. Just since I've started posting, only one month, I've noticed that there are lots more questions and it's harder to get in sometimes too.

One year from today, I'll be in my Y2K retreat with no net access, so I won't be posting or reading. And at the pace this forum is changing, with more and more racists, Mad Maxes and idiots, I won't miss it.

I think Chris and I are seeing/feeling some similar things...I'm seeing that I will be in S. Carolina with my family...but I thought it might be good to be online as the clock turns over the new year...perhaps in a Y2K saavy chat space...maybe a place to say "farewell for now".

I'm guessing that we are getting more and more of the less saavy to Yourdon's of late. I've grown accustomed to a non-bunker mentality here...silly of me.

I think we'll see more of the same...more of the less saavy and many people scared as hell. Voices of reason with time to point to quick and immediate preparations (like containers filled with water) will be very important.

I think it is in keeping with the modern habit of never explicitly telling anyone anything...but you can find threads at Yourdons that discusses why there wasn't more whistle-blowing earlier...

I personally think that humans in the modern world are very entrenched in thinking that says...we don't talk about "jack" to nobody...I was not told the truth about US history in school when I was a teen in the 60s...I was told a pleasant white wash. I think it is part and parcel of a failure in learning in the psychology of learning...failure in learning about human psychology in general...and a latching on a symbol, and appearance over reality and substance....a part of the patriarchal system that has developed over the last 5000 years....hard to sort it all out because of the length of time of the evolution of the sleep-walking.

Donna, just what do you mean by "the truth about US history"?

In high school when we were taught Australian history (only five years ago), we were not given the truth either- except that it was biased completely against the white settlers. We were taught about how Captain James Cook (the man who discovered the country) was "a scout of the invaders", about Governor Philips (the man in charge of the first colony) was "a brutal invader", about how the whites used strychnine to kill the aborigines "like dogs" (actually, this only happened once, and from the evidence I've seen it may very well have been an accident). In short, we were given a completely blackwashed version of history -blackwashed to the point of serious incorrectness- designed by some leftie in the Board of Studies, and backed by his liberal colleagues. The whites did do a couple of unpleasant things to the blacks, but far less than the US did to the Indians, or the British did to the Chinese, or the Africans; Australia got off very lightly, in fact, but the Board historians paint it as a murderous, brutal 'invasion'.

Also, if anyone's talking about idiots and means Jerry, he sounds like a ten year old kid to me.

Leo,..I'm talking about JUST what you are talking about...."history"...that is the history according to the dominant conquering group. Even now in the US the ki9ds get the same blather in high schools,....about the wonder of those great white men in the capital seats...how they saved humanity, which actually means how they saved the money of the world for the monied...In the US FDR, the late president is lauded still and he was from a multi-generational family of bankers,...he outlawed the private ownership of gold...he allowed the big banks to take over private land...he is called a good man..and he was not. He is only one example of the history that is still taught in the US to naive children, whose parents were raised on the same blather.

This book, by a history professor, tells all: Lies My Teacher Told Me : Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen. Touchstone Books, 1995. ISBN 0684818868.

From Kirkus Review:

"Textbooks, Loewen argues, ``supply irrelevant and erroneous details, while omitting pivotal questions and facts in their treatments of issues ranging from Columbus's second voyage to the possibility of impending ecocide.'' He notes their non-treatment of subjects such as early American settlers' relations with the Indians, Helen Keller's radical socialism (textbooks often present her story only as an inspirational one), Abraham Lincoln's complex attitudes about race, and American atrocities in Vietnam. Loewen contends that American history has traditionally been taught in order to inculcate patriotism and other moral qualities rather than to get at the truth. Moreover, he asserts, the discipline of history, more than other scholarly fields, has traditionally been dominated by upper-class white male writers who share a particular consensus on American history."

Something we need to consider is this:

"These United States are founded, let's face it, upon the enslavement of innocent Africans, the extermination of innocent Indians, and a revered piece of paper that lies, in the face of both tragedies, that "all men [sic] are created equal." These States are founded, in other words, on hope, faith, idealism, love, sacrifice, ingenuity, courage -- and some of the most staggering hypocrisies in the history of humankind." (David James Duncan, writing in The Sun, December, 1998)

And -- all things considered -- it's worked out moderately well here anyway, so much so that much of the rest of the world wants to live here.

I dunno about Australia. I expect folks there may have a few awkward facts in their history to chew on, too.

Donna, I agree with you that they white wash everything they tell you...but there is a flip side also....When someone does tell the truth...(like many of the watchmen of y2k)...no one believes it and laughs them into oblivion!!! If one does not have a thick hide one could become a tad shy about speaking out!

I suspect much of what we know as history was, in fact, "his-story," and not hers. More historical writing from a nuturing, caring, encouraging, and growth-oriented persepctive, rather than an aggressive, dominating and controlling one, might have shifted our thoughts, minds and hearts earlier on. Oh well, water under the bridge.

We ARE here now. We can impact a Shift. It is happening. Keep writing, posting and e-mailing. History, uh Her-story, may well show in our upcoming beyond 2000 future that, what we do each day today, will have untold positive repercussions.

Here is to small pebbles, heard, rippling through big internet ponds.

The internet is as well. During all of history, who kept having the babies and seeing they grew up? Actually it was a "team" effort.

As one internet article I posted recently indicates, more and more women, translation "moms," are coming online. Just watch this group switch from DGI'ers to GI'ers soon, especially with a little help from the mass newsmedia and Oprah.

They'll be hauling their men to the store so they can help with hefting the preparation goods, any day soon now (after the holidays).

Here's to more balanced brain power and twirling the digital Y2K "get it" spins out on the internet and back into the homes across America and spanning the globe!

A year from now, after so many non-event days (i.e. 1/1/99, 4/1/99, 9/9/99, etc.), there will still be posts claiming the next "critical" date will be 12/xx/99 (where xx is the following day). And, everyone will be saying "today's 50 point drop in the stock market (down to 10,450) is the beginning of the end."

And, there will be a new name for us skeptics/in denial/DGI/etc. etc.

I don't say this disrespecfully to you folks...just my thoughts.

Just look at the history of Africa before you condemn the whites, what about Rwanda, the greatest slaughter since WWII went practically unreported, since it was black on black. What about S Africa's descent into lawlessness give it another 5 years then complete chaos as exists all over the continent.
