Ted et al., Thanks for your comments. This was taken in Alligator River NWR in Dare Co., NC, in May. Sigma 400mm lens, N70, SB28 at -1 fill, and Velvia.

Very sophisticated image! Well-composed, Great exposure technique, and really plays to the strengths of Velvia, an emulsion that too often produces images that I would call unsubtle and garish. The shapes of the unfocused colors in the background frame the bird... this is a portfolio shot for sure, particularly if in a print you got textural detail on the bird's breast. I'm envious.
