While I Am Sure No Tears Will Be Shed...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

While I am sure no one lose sleep over this, I may be missing for awhile. My 78 year old grandmother (the last living one) was just rushed to the hospital at 2 AM by my parents. I was left here to try to get through on the phone (multiple lines in the house, so I am not slacking off) to my Uncle, but he is not answering. Anyway, I may be gone for awhile from the board and just thought I would throw it up here for the heck of it.

While I do not get along with everyone on here (as much my fault as anyone elses) I would appreciate your good thoughts for the next few days. This woman is very dear to me and I do not relish this in the least. So please, while preparing for Y2K, if you could spare just a moment to send even one good vibe to Grandma "Edie" I would appreciate it.

I recently had a similar scare with my grandmother. It was a rough couple of weeks but everything turned out just fine. I hope that you both have the same luck. Keep the faith.

I will certainly pray for the grandmother and mother's recovery. My father died in September while I was holding his hand. Still doesn't seem possible that he's gone.

-- James Chancellor (publicworks1@bluebonnet.net), November 30, 1998.

Well, Rick, you're wrong about the no tears part. It would be hard to read this thread and NOT cry. My sympathies to Richard and James on the loss of their fathers. Ed, we will pray for your mom, Ruth, as well.

PS- Welcome back to Bob Barbour! Hope you're rested and refreshed!

Rick and Ed,

My most sincere best wishes to Edie and Ruth and to you and your families.

Grandma "Edie", we send our wishes for strength and recovery.

-- No Spam Please (anon@ymous.com), November 30, 1998.

Rick, you & yours are in our prayers, along with all poster's facing health crisis.

When a person is in the Hospital, having a family member or close friend stay with the patient to keep an eye on their care is a very good idea. When we worked at a University Hospital in the Cancer Care /Bone Marrow Transplant Units, we observed that those patients who had family members present and advocating for them received more careful attention from all the staff. Sad but true -- it's human nature to perform more conscientiously when one is being watched & monitored.

Good luck, & uplifting thoughts to all of you.

A good vibe sent to Rick and Edie. Hang in there.

My grandmother, also last surviving grandparent, will not be alive in 2000 (she was given 6 months to live almost a year ago). When the time comes, I know my entire family will grieve for quite a while.

All we can hope for, I guess, is that the end isn't too painful, and that we can say goodbye and one last "I love you".

For Rick , Grandma "Edie" and Ruth,

May you be surrounded by loving thoughts, caring people, may angels kiss your brows, and may you all know that our thoughts flow to you on gentle winds as our prayers steep you in radiant light.

Blessings, Diane

Rick,

I lost my grandmother a couple of weeks ago. She was spiritially ready and was looking forward to being reunited with my grandfather. I will miss her terribly, but I'm happy that she won't have to endure the hardships of y2k.

I will say a prayer for your grandmother and your family.

Hi trisch, my mother is on a ventilator, and is having a very rough go of it. the cardiologist is upbeat, and says she can pull through, and that it may be frustrating to me to not see her making progress, I should give it some time. he says its not that bad, and when it gets bad, I'll tell you its bad. however, in my heart, I fear she's giving up. wish I could report better news. thanks for caring.

-- ed (edrider007@aol.com), December 03, 1998.

also as a side note, I called the public aid office this morning, and was told all of our computers are down, we cant do anything today. I said, oh, is the y2k thing hitting already?. she said yes. I dont know if she was joking or not...

-- ed (edrider007@aol.com), December 03, 1998.

Rick- My thoughts are with you and Grand-ma Edie, concentrating real hard to send good vibes, hang in there.

Ed- Same for you. Keep upbeat spirits around your mom, she needs it. Positive thinking really does matter when one is sick, I've seen it over and over as a nurse. When the mind gives, the body gives. She needs your support and caring presence.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), December 03, 1998.

today my mom is siting up and smiling, and the ventilator is out! I'm smiling to! thanks to all of you for your prayers!

after coming off the ventilator, my mom hovered near death for seven days. the nurses and docs said she was probably dieing, but that she could rebound. well, she HAS rebounded, however, she cannot keep food down. right before the heart attack, she was complaining that she always felt like vomiting. they did the gastro whatever thing to check for ulcers, and found nothing. they say there is no reason for her nausea. chuck, the night driver, any ideas? I should also mention she has diabetes. its amazing how much better shes doing, except for the thowing up everytime she eats.

-- ed (edrider007@aol.com), December 17, 1998.

Ed,

I'm glad to see that your mom has rebounded!

A guess - Perhaps her nausea is related to her diabetes somehow. Because diabetes interferes with the process of cellular nutrition, it can affect any living cell in the body and thus have a wide variety of effects, according to my endocrinology (the pancreas is an endocrine gland) specialist.
