While I am sure no one lose sleep over this, I may be missing for awhile. My 78 year old grandmother (the last living one) was just rushed to the hospital at 2 AM by my parents. I was left here to try to get through on the phone (multiple lines in the house, so I am not slacking off) to my Uncle, but he is not answering. Anyway, I may be gone for awhile from the board and just thought I would throw it up here for the heck of it.

While I do not get along with everyone on here (as much my fault as anyone elses) I would appreciate your good thoughts for the next few days. This woman is very dear to me and I do not relish this in the least. So please, while preparing for Y2K, if you could spare just a moment to send even one good vibe to Grandma "Edie" I would appreciate it.

When a person is in the Hospital, having a family member or close friend stay with the patient to keep an eye on their care is a very good idea. When we worked at a University Hospital in the Cancer Care /Bone Marrow Transplant Units, we observed that those patients who had family members present and advocating for them received more careful attention from all the staff. Sad but true -- it's human nature to perform more conscientiously when one is being watched & monitored.

My grandmother, also last surviving grandparent, will not be alive in 2000 (she was given 6 months to live almost a year ago). When the time comes, I know my entire family will grieve for quite a while.

All we can hope for, I guess, is that the end isn't too painful, and that we can say goodbye and one last "I love you".

I lost my grandmother a couple of weeks ago. She was spiritially ready and was looking forward to being reunited with my grandfather. I will miss her terribly, but I'm happy that she won't have to endure the hardships of y2k.

after coming off the ventilator, my mom hovered near death for seven days. the nurses and docs said she was probably dieing, but that she could rebound. well, she HAS rebounded, however,she cannot keep food down. right before the heart attack, she was complaining that she always felt like vomiting. they did the gastro whatever thing to check for ulcers, and found nothing. they say there is no reason for her nausea. chuck, the night driver, any ideas? I should also mention she has diabetes. its amazing how much better shes doing, except for the thowing up everytime she eats.

I'm glad to see that your mom has rebounded!

A guess - Perhaps her nausea is related to her diabetes somehow. Because diabetes interferes with the process of cellular nutrition, it can affect any living cell in the body and thus have a wide variety of effects, according to my endocrinology (the pancreas is an endocrine gland) specialist.
