Sounds like GM is worried...naah 8-) If this is where GM is at in remediation, it makes you wonder how far behind Honda and Toyota might be.

I should add, that bonus is on top of the $300. mil. contract they already have. Will they check GM's 60,000 suppliers, too?

What is the financial penalty to EDs if they don't?

I know what the penalty might be to GM, but to EDS ......?

Think this will bring out some public comments from Ross Perot?

Doesn't GM own EDS? or at least a big chunk of it? If that's the case, could this be merely an accounting and publicity trick?

ps, I think you're right! and neither will be compliant!

I expect Ross Perot to start talking about y2k around the beginning of next year.

Ross Perot? He's a businessman, too, wanting profits for his companies. A shrewd person in business would quietly fix their own systems, and be quiet about the larger business world.

Ross Perot wouldn't want to crash his own stocks, or be known for causing a stock market crash.

Ross Perot started EDS, but left a long time ago. He now has a new company called Perot Systems which is in direct competition with EDS. About 2 years ago, EDS split off from General Motors as a "stand alone" company. (However, relations are still pretty good- we still get discounts on GM vehicles!) :-)

Gayla, If you have been there long enough, do you know any of the folks who disapeared for while in the 79-81 time frame and showed up later driving LARGE new cars??? One of my erstwhile co-employees at an insurance co, says he missed the cut by about an inch while he was there. Though those folks DID acomplish the goal of rescueing employees in harms way.

One of the reasons as far as I'm concerned, Ross gets a WHOLE LOTA SLACK when he gets his foot in his mouth.

I found a link to a Y2K article on Toyota. They must be coming along half-way well, or the story wouldn't have been printed.

It does give you an idea of how hard Y2K remediation is. Toyota does have extensive contingency plans.

Chuck, a little before my husband's time.
