Proposal on Post Format

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HCDL-OLD : One Thread

Hi all,

Since I have been getting some responses to this proposal. I thought I would put them here for all to read.

Here is all the posts so far. From now on, please respond to this OLD and not to me personally.

Hi all,

Somone asked me about the possibility of having the web address for the HCDL personal profile directory automatically showing up at the bottom of each post. They thought it would make it easy to reference the directory, to get a sense of who was posting.

I think the software allows us to do this.

Before we went any further with the idea, I wanted to get some feedback. If you have any feelings pro or con for this idea, please write me privately. I will take no response, as indicating no one really cares either way, and I would probably proceed.

My current thought is to have the following appear at the bottom of each post. If you have any different ideas what should go there, if anything, please write me privately.

Barry, Sounds like a good idea! How about one more? Could you include the majordomo address and basic commands? Or at least a reference to majordomo?

Barry,

Well, it will mean more "junk" on the bottom of each post. Many of these posts will already have some "junk," in the form of the poster's sig. And you know what will happen--people will be sloppy about editing replies, as always, and they will leave the sigs and web addresses on the post they're quoting, *and* it will appear on their own post, so there'll be layers of the stuff.

But, I suppose that's not the end of the world. I dunno. Other than that, I don't have much of an opinion.

Great idea Barry!

I get just Digest version of HCDL. How about putting your 4 or 5 addresses at the end of the digest? For those that get the individual e-mail version the addresses could be only after the last post of the day.

Would that work?

Sounds great!!!

Any inconveniences due to increased length of individual posts, whether in regular mode or digest mode, will be offset by the convenience of ready availability of the link while that particular post is before our very eyes. It would also put less of a burden upon whoever is doing the compiling of the digest. Whatever way you choose to impliment this, it is worth any inconveniences that it may impose upon the receivers of its benefits.

HCDL is worth my time: for it makes the networking of brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, possible in ways that were not available before. Chips of silicon, pieces and bits and bytes, put to use for the glory of God ... by jars of clay.
