Calling all San Francisco Bay Area people: You are invited to attend a Y2K event at Cal State Hayward
This Thursday, November 19, 1998, 7:30 PM
In the University Union Room 101, Free Admission. The speaker is James McNish, Executive Director and co-founder of the not-for-profit Kansas City Year 2000 Coalition. The title is "The Y2K problem: Apocalypse or a Bad Winter?" He will speak for an hour and then we will have a 25 minute Q/A session. I believe the slant will be towards a bad winter, but if you have an alternative view, feel free to come and ask provacative questions. We are expecting a 75-100 people, including students, faculty, staff, and community people. It is open to the public. I work for the Smith Center, a privately endowed free-market think tank at Cal State Hayward. Call and ask for directions at 510-885-2640. I would like to have a balanced fact sheet, community preparedness, and individual preparedness information available at the event. Does anyone know of a good link out there for several one page handouts I can offer to attendees?

We had a great event last night--150 people came and filled the room. The speaker spoke about everything from automatic doors to financial institutions and said he was about a 5 on the scale of 1 to 10. He did say that if someone was dependent on electricity for dialysis or whatever, buying a generator is not a bad idea. He is a lawyer for a electric utility, so he couldn't say much about the industry, except that he had learned some facts that were pretty "scary." Darn!!

Does anyone know a good speaker from California for our next Y2K event?

Did someone have a sign-up sheet for those 150 people to start a Y2K mailing list Donna?

Over the next week I'm preparing an initial Y2K presentation to a local neighbor who is on our city council. Hopefully that will lead to some community action in my town. How did the 150 people hear about your meeting?

Diane
