Anyone else get an e-mail from North's listserve?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I suppose it was because I requested Gary North's Cash e-mail thing, now I'm on the mailing list... Today I received a long and rambling e-mail titled "The North perspective on the application of the Scripture." It begins - "WISDOM WITHOUT REVELATION ?

An open letter concerning the perspective of Gary North as indicated on his Y2k site:"

Then goes into many paragraphs of hypnotic writing that I personally am not interested in. Also, it seems like anytime anyone responds to it, unless they are aware of what they are doing, everyone on the listserve gets the responses also. Yuck!

Anyone else experiencing this? To me, it lessens his credibility...

I never thought North had a lot of credibility to lessen. His extremist bias is a good reason why a lot of people aren't going to wake up about y2k until too late- they see him and think "y2k is an obsession of right-wing wackos, not normal people like us."

pshannon - I haven't got yet, but I am expecting it. I was pretty sure this was his ulterior motive for having us do a listserv as opposed to his just putting up his economic forecast on a web page. Since I had mentioned this possability somewhere else on this page, can't remember the thread, I will now take this oppurtunity to do the "I told you so" dance (not directed at you specifically pshannon:)

Leo, North's credibility to me is his collecting articles from other sources, and being brave enough to have and keep his perspective on the issue. NOT his personal filters that everything goes through. I'm smart enough to seperate the message from the messenger. If he wants me to listen to him and believe what he says, he should not send me unsolicited e-mail.

Rick, you DID tell us so. I remember...

A good thread where we discussed Gary north and which is now archived is Is Gary North a manipulative liar or just careless? I'm pointing it out to new comers and/or those who haven't had a chance to see read it.

Gary North himself even made an apearance on this thread in his own defense.

pshannon,

Your description of the e-mail makes me wonder whether it was sent not by Gary North, but by someone else who's obtained some of his mailing list.

pshannon,

(continued)

I meant to add that whoever sent the message could have faked North's address as the source.

This morning I received an e-mail from Gary that reads:

"Dear Friend,

You may have recently received a letter from Mr. James Jay Ferris. He somehow got some of the names of people who signed up to receive my "Reality Check" e-mail newsletter. I did not know that he did this and I do not approve of this negative letter. Please disregard any future mailings from this man.

I am sorry for the confusion concerning our recent mail out with our new list server. We hope that we have fixed all problems. If you have any questions or did not receive Issue #32 of Gary North's "Reality Check" please contact Debbie Grigg at mailto:icetyler@juno.com and she will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Gary North "

Apology accepted...

Does this mean that Rick has to reverse his "I told you so" dance?

-- Gayla Dunbar (privacy@please.com), November 18, 1998.

No, I don't think so, because he may still turn out to be right in the long run...
