Welcome to the Coffee Buy/Sell Forum.

This was started in response to Ted Simpson's inquiry as to whether a "virtual thrift store" can be started to buy/sell/trade Coffee Paraphernalia. Please read the disclaimer and rules of this forum before posting.

The spirit of how this forum came about is in an excerpt of Ted's e-mail as follows:

"Second, When Jill and I started this hobby (roasting) and also collecting old coffee paraphernalia we started spending considerable time in thrift stores and flea markets. the result is that we have found a number of poppers of the old style that we have bought- probably 6 or 7 of the 1500 w and 1400 w 'tank' poppers of the 60's and 70's. we also found a pretty good intro pump espresso machine (briel brasil and Java grinder) for 40 bucks. In short we have expanded our hobby pretty cheaply...

I was wondering if there was any way the 'list could begin a 'virtual thrift store' where Shirley in Ohio who wants a 1500w popper can find it w/ Bob in L.A. and BUY IT CHEAPLY... I really don't know how this might work and it is important that it not compete w/ Tom and Maria in any way, though I can only imagine that it would result in more purchases of green beans for roasting... I'm really thinking more of a resource sharing method since we are all pioneers having to rely on now obsolete technology (air poppers) which cannot be ordered but only bought on a 'catch as catch can' basis. Any ideas how this small community could share these resources? Think of the early home brewing movement... if you could find stainless steel kegs in NC and make them available cheaply to someone in Kansas then the hobby flourished as more people expanded their knowledge base. Eventually this 'underground' network wasn't needed as supplies came into availability from regular suppliers, but the 'good ole brewer' network fueled the early growth of the hobby in many ways."

Enjoy!
