If your original is exposed like this image, you overexposed at least 1/2 a stop - the white flower in full sun is totally featureless. And because it is so overexposed, I can't be sure of the focus on the stamen. The background is nice, but too bright for all the busywork of the leaves to the far rear - I would prefer to have that area darker, but not black; a diffuse shadow thrown on the far background would do nicely.

Hmm, I actually like the composition with the contrast between the clean lines of the flower (not to get too botanical here) and the more chaotic shapes of the leaves. It's one of the images, though, where I think black&white might have worked better. Also, it seems that you had to highly compress the image to meet the file size limits with an image that large. I think that really takes away from the impact. Maybe posting it at 400x300 (or something like that) would have been better

Thanks for the input. The scan is taken from a machine print - I think the negative has considerably more detail in the highlights. When I took this, I knew the 35mm lens could not isolate the flower, so I chose to include some contrasting leaves instead, especially the diagonally opposed "curls" of the flower and leaf.
