What are some differences between B&W and colored pics?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

Im doing a project over the differences in black-and-white and colored pictures. I will be doing trials with subjects but I need some ideas on what to look for. For example, the shadows and things like that. I dont really know what else to look for so any help in this matter, ideas or suggestions, will be much appreciated.

Hmm, the difference between B&W and colour...

Something you could play with is the ability to play with tones. Put something green beside something red, and take a B&W photo. Then take a photo through a green filter, and another through a red filter. Compare the 3 B&W prints.

Speaking of shadows, you might note the various ranges of films. Compare shadow detail between E-6 (slide film) and B&W. Shoot the B&W through a blue filter to enhance shadow detail. (Outdoors light in the shadows is blue)
