Looking for a good PC video recording card for Premiere

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Editing DV Films : One Thread

I am researching the purchase of a PC non-linear editing system using the premiere bundle. I am having trouble finding the right capture card to work from DV tape as well as beta cam. Any thoughts?

You may want to look at the fast DV Master Pro card - around $ 3500 in Europe, but DV, Y/C, YUV in and out. DV codec on card, so real-time playback on computer monitor from timeline.

Might I make a suggestion?

Dont bother with the Fast or Canopus cards, its not that they are bad but there are cheaper (and better) ways around the problem. Sony makes several Pro-sumer DV decks ($1500.00 to $3500.00) that all have FireWire connections. They can record Y/C in and output direct to FireWire, so all you will need is a FireWire card and Premeire. You can the view the realtime video on a standard monitor connected to the DVC deck's RCA/SVHS jack.

YUV(Betacam), DV, S-VHS(YC), composite I/O, Transcodes either direction for any of these formats. Hmmmmm, sounds like the DVREX is your answer. See URL:

Bundled with Uleads MSPPro for under $2400 street price.

I own a Canopus DV REX M1 and it is THE best investment I have ever made. It works excellent with premier. I also use MSP 5.2. It is well worth spending the money. Als o be sure to buy a videoraid. It is expensive, but the support is incredible!!! There may be cheaper alternitives, but you may not be as happy with those as you will with this. Go to www.canopuscorp.com and check out the REX Users forum. It is Great!!!

I agree with Chris. The Canopus DVRex-M1 is totally hot. It's the current rage and is totally stable, fast and very affordable. For film production type apps., the bundled Rex Edit software is great. Much of it is real time and very fast and easy to work with. It works great with Premiere too. Check out the forums at www.canopuscorp.com. Try posting a message comparing the board to anything out there.
